Hey guys. I work at a big 4 firm in Houston, and as you might imagine we have some oil and gas clients. My two main clients are E&P companies, so a lot of their financial information relies very heavily on ownership interests. I am will soon have the (“great learning”) opportunity that entails being in charge of ownership testing for both entities. I’ve looked at a couple examples, tracing ownership interests from the original title opinions to the ownership interests that they have today. These wells are operated by my clients, so they don’t just keep track of their own working/net revenue/overriding royalty/etc interests.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and had any luck finding resources that helped you deeply understand title opinions, interest assignments, acquisitions, etc? As it is a big 4 firm we have plenty of resources, but not on this since it is completely unrelated to accounting. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated so I don’t completely screw these up! Thanks in advance.
