Hey guys, lately I’ve developed a curiosity about the inner workings of all your beautiful minds out there. I’m especially interested in perceived social pressures. I’m not currently developing a research paper for it, but I potentially may in the future. What better audience to poll than CPA candidates/alumni?

    @Jeff

Hahahaha That is pretty funny. My favorite the options for how competitive you are ๐Ÿ™‚

CA CPA - All because of the journey listed below
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    FAR - 53('10), 8/25/12 79 PASSED!
    REG - 66('11), 69('12), 12/06/12 77 PASSED!!
    BEC - 58('10), 74('12), 01/05/13 77 PASSED!!!
    AUD - 43('11), 66('12), 69('13), 74('13) 7/29/13 85 PASSED!!!!!

    1.No

    2. N/A

    3. N/A

    4. No, I'm not working right now because I just left the seminary. However, I've told my former co-workers I'm taking the exam and the only pressure is from me.

    5. N/A (Didn't fail yet)

    6. Yes, my mom is annoying the heck out of me asking me my scores all the time. Part of me feels guilt because three years ago I told her I took the exam so she would get off my back when I really didn't because I felt unprepared.

    7. No, I lied about it the first time. If I fail it just means I have to retake the section. I know I will pass eventually and she will then leave me alone.

    8. I haven't failed yet. However, when I thought I failed Reg I was mad because one of the SIMS was on a topic that had only a paragraph in my hundreds of pages of material. I realized I needed to focus less on knowing everything to the minute detail and more on understanding the whole myriad of topics in good detail.

    9. 10

Everything is a competition for me. I remember when I was 7 I had a competition to see who could push a quarter with their nose across the carpet the fastest with my sister (my idea). Let's just say she was smart enough to let me win. I went to school with a huge rug burn on my nose. :p

    10. I really enjoy the field and the challenges it presents. I'm a big seeker of truth and excellence in all aspects of life. I think that's what attracted me to accounting and made me decide not to pursue my finance background (too many assumptions and good models can turn out bad quickly).

NIU CPA Review Correspondence is awesome!

I passed all four sections on the first attempt

Thanks BaseballCPA for putting this out here! I'm looking forward to the results.

I have maaaaaaybe once thought about lying if I didn't pass, and then in a nanosecond you realize how crazy that is and all the energy it would take to sustain the lie. Anyhow, we are supposed to be ethical aren't we?

This last time I completely succcumbed to the pressure. It was going to be last exam after 5+ (now almost 6) years at this and all my coworkers knew as well. And my family just wants this for me so badly since I have been at it for so frakking long. I almost started hyperventilating before the exam!

Now I have always been a calm test taker. I always go in there with the attitude that I know what I know and I don't know what I don't know! But last time was just rough.

This time I smartly didn't tell anyone at work until the day before and now I shall just have to wait and see…

    Questions 1-7: No or N/A

    Question 8: I failed; it's on me

    Question 9: Scale of 1-10, I'm a 1

Question 10: It's actually “None of the Above”; the reason was that I had way too much skin in the game not to have one.

Hahaha Jeff you're hilarious. Thanks for making it into an official poll! I appreciate everyone's responses so far…I'm very interested to see what the general results are. I'll likely leave it open for a week and then compile the answers. And don't worry, I will be giving a report on the outcome ๐Ÿ™‚

I should have added one last question: When it comes to taking the CPA exam, would you rather pass or fail?

I've already taken the poll but since you added a question, I'll answer it as well.

I think I'd rather fail. There is no greater joy in my life than spending a ton of money on review course material and testing fees only to see another score below 75. I live for it in fact. I wait with greedy anticipation of my score popping up on the screen hoping to see another freaking 73. I look forward to that feeling of being thought of as a huge effing joke again. I just can't get enough of that.

I think it's obvious that I haven't said I passed one when I actually failed. Look at the signature below for proof of this. Hell, I made a video and laid my whole exam career out for the world to see and posted it on youtube.

Maybe it's the 103 degree fever I have right now talking, but I am curious about one question. If the Ragin' Cajun is an 8 on the bitch scale, then were does Pissed Off Coon-ass fall in the hierarchy?

@Kricket – I'm gonna say that falls at about a 28 out of 10 ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hope you feel better!
