I did wrestling and now do jiu jitsu. Blue belt currently. It is such a great way to relieve stress and clear the mind. Such a cathartic experience with me and has proven positive effects on learning and memory. I can't wait to get on the mat. It is very important to me that I make sure I have mat time, even while the next test is approaching.

I joined a BJJ gym that does MMA as well last month. It's a humbling experience to get destroyed by everyone. It also makes one appreciate what cage fighters go through. For the MMA fans here, I've been really digging the Vice Fightland Series (https://fightland.vice.com/en_us) especially Jack Slack's articles. A podcast I've been listening to is Heavy Hands: https://heavyhandspodcast.com/

One of the partners in my office is a brown belt and competes in BJJ. Sometimes it seems like it would be fun, then he shows up to work with a busted lip or cauliflower ear, and I reconsider.

One of the guys I work with trains at the same school as the partner in my office. He's currently on the disabled list with a torn elbow tendon 🙁

@dmitch – I loved going to class when I was studying, though studying usually trumped mat time. I thought after the exams were over I'd make it more regularly – apparently that's not the case!! Hoping to get down there at least once a week through tax season…. I miss it!

@taxgeek83 I understand about not getting time, I am really lucky to be able to go to a few different gyms if I need to get mat time. I have my main gym of course, but a few other open mats at various times as well. I feel like I need it at least a few times a week, with the occasional only once or twice a week. It is necessary like sleep for me. Keeps the mind, body and soul sharp.
