So…I did a BJJ tournament and signed up for No-Gi. I had never grappled with a Gi before and wanted to make the most of my day, so I signed up for Gi as well and borrowed a Gi.

    Mistake.

My first match was against a guy who was on the Army grappling team – that was his entire job – to grapple all day.

Apparently you can be choked out with your own collar. Who knew? πŸ™‚

Started doing BJJ and MMA in February of this year, now I try to get in the gym anywhere from 2-4 times a week. Had to take the last two weeks off for a pulled muscle though.

Getting in the gym is MUCH easier now that the CPA is out of the way πŸ™‚

@Jeff, lol, I was in training and gave up my back but I was defending real well. So, I thought next thing I know I was blacking out due to my own collar as well, couldn't believe it.

I did BJJ and Muay Thai for 3.5 years in my younger 20s, would love to continue but between CPA, marriage, and a son there is no time left.

Ha – The collar choke was one of the first things I learned, I think. Slick trick!

On another note, my gym has a really good kids class. They actually ended up splitting it into two classes a few months ago because there were too many kids for the space. Pretty cool!

word, I want to start training so bad. i have options for many a schools like sera, marcelo garcia (who i def. would be so super stoked to train under), alliance, gracie branch, and many others. but im going to wait until i finish this journey. Probably take a while but if i train i definitely want to commit, like 4 days a week at least. I think the only thing that gives me knee jerk reactions is the MRSA or gladiator herpes spiel. i always respected wrestling and judo, more so wrestling. hopefully for me, 2015 will be a good year re: this cpa thang thang

Cauliflower Ear is one way to distinguish yourself from the rest of the pack in an interview.

i always wear headgear when sparring. My ears cauliflower so easily i've had to have them drained about 6 x each and got sick of it. Cauli ears won't serve you well in the accounting profession.

For MRSA, etc goto defensesoap.com. They have excellent soaps, wipes, and gels to apply before class. Also, make sure you shower upon leaving the gym or go directly home and shower. Exposure to others is the thing I hate most about training.

staph and skin infection is probably my #1 concern. i go straight home and shower and scrub with a loofah thing. much more of a concern with nogi than gi though

@ridiqls the I would love to be training out of HQ in Hollywood but its 60 miles away from me. I train out of 10th planet Corona. They're an up an coming school, a lot of pro mma fighters come and train with us. Eddie is pretty amazing with his system, so far a couple UFC fighters have used it successfully (Kelvin Gastulum, Ben Saunders, Tony Feguson and couple others) FAR hasn't let me go as often as i'd like :(.

@leglock I need to start wearing headgear if i want to stay in this field lol

@super.senpai you have some really good options! do you train mostly in GI? A day doesn't go by where i don't think about training. My goal is to be at least a brown belt with a CPA in a couple of years πŸ˜€

@Jeff how did the Bob Sapp sponsorship come about?

Call me crazy but i think a little bit of cauliflower looks cool πŸ˜‰

After a 2 year hiatus – I started Taekwondo back up today. It was sparring day … killer workout.

@apj – Bob Sapp eBay'd his fight sponsorship and I happen to see it in some MMA forum. Very random.

@apj – It was so awesome to be back on the mat! And it was a small class so it wasn't too crazy. I am definitely out of Jiu Jitsu shape though – I guess that's what happens when you skip a month of training!
