I use pencil for my notes, I mess up to much to use pen and I would end up with ink all over my hands.

@Jennifer241, are you left-handed? I've considered writing in pencil because I always end up dragging my hand through wet ink. I might finally make the switch for my next exam.

Right now I use the Papermate Profile pen. It writes smoothly and has a great grip that makes it more comfortable to hold for long periods of time. Not the best option if you're left-handed though. When you first start using it the ink is a little blotchy/runny. Every lefty knows how annoying and messy that can be -_-

    FAR - 70, 83
    REG - 82
    BEC - 78
    AUD - 76

I am not a lefty, but I am constantly touching my paper with my left hand and I have no idea how I get the ink on my right hand.

Both my brother and my mother are lefty's so I know your pain

I started alternating colors between topics as I take notes. It makes it easier to review notes after you've filled a notebook.

Also, being left handed I just go with the standard Bic pen. Some of those pens that are too heavy on the ink have ruined my notes in the past. Pencils won't smudge but they don't work with my alternating-colors technique

    AUD - 68 (5/24/13), 84 (7/11/13)
    BEC - 83 (8/29/13)
    FAR - 70 (12/04/13) 80 (2/10/14)

Uni-Ball is the best. I like the ultra micro the best. Uni-Ball has several colors to choose from. After trying them all, I don't want to write with any other pens. I am inspired to keep writing with this brand. I even use my own pen at work. I don't care if I have to pay for it. What matters is I enjoy writing with my favorite pen and my writing even looks prettier now.
