BEC test was so theory intensive – similar experiences?

I was so surprised that theory was MAJORITY of the test and so much harder than calculations! Some topics are totally foreign. Boy I am screwed.

The calculation questions were easy, short, 2 step calculations, nothing like all the long Becker questions that I did that involved multi-step and “squeezing” – does that mean I did badly in the MC’s that they gave easy testlets?

    Steph:

I'm shooting to take this one at the end of the month. Without breaking the AICPA agreement, what areas would you say would be “must study” sections? I'm also using Becker and I've been through the whole book + lectures and am now in Review Mode. So just looking for some advice as to where to concentrate my studies.

Thanks and good luck! Hopefully you passed!

@Angelwatch I'd say study all the chapters. I focused all the calculations and formulae, like most people would, but if I could do this over, I'd go over every piece of theory as well.

Oh man…I've totally been focusing on memorizing formulas. Guess I need to change it up. Not even really sure how to study the theory, but I'll try. Thanks.

That's how mine was in August. I just took AUD recently and I've found out from both tests so far the things Becker says you “have to know” I haven't even gotten barely 1 question on. Also Becker gives you questions with 4-5 lines but the exam is only 1-2 line questions. The AICPA released questions are just really spot on to what the exam is like.

As you approach the exam, assuming you haven't mastered all the material, there may be a certain amount of triaging you must do. I focused on nailing down all the formulas the day before the test and trusted that I knew the concepts. Well…..there were certainly some questions that I only got right due to getting the formulas down as well as some I had to guess cause I didn't review a concept enough. For me it was more comforting knowing I knew the formulas, and being comfortable going into the exam is very important!
