ChemKing uses a standard costing system in the manufacture of its single product. The 35,000 units of raw material in inventory were purchased for $105,000, and two units of raw material are required to produce one unit of final product. In November, the company produced 12,000 units of product. The standard allowed for material was $60,000, and there was an unfavorable quantity variance of $2,500.
The units of material used to produce November output totaled:

    a.
    12,000 units.

    b.
    12,500 units.

    c.
    24,000 units.

    d.
    25,000 units.

Answer is D. Can someone explain how?
I keep formatting it as 2.5(AQ-24,000)=-2500 but it doesn’t work out

    The formula is
    SP x (SQ – AQ)

    $2.5 x (24,000 – AQ)= -2,500

    Actual quantities used is 25,000

This instructor is great. His explanation of the variance is very clear and easy to understand.

Unfavorable quantity variance means the actual quantity is larger than the standard allowed quantity. Standard allowed quantity basically means the estimated quantity that you plan to use. Therefore, if the actual quantity is greater than the estimate, then the difference is unfavorable.

I see that you got a 73 on BEC, on Dec 8 I found out I got a 74 🙁 that's why I am picking my study up again…and its my last one too! How are you studying this time around?

I completely skipped the cost accounting questions while reviewing for BEC and still passed with an 83. Becker states in the beginning of the book how much of the exam consists of cost accounting and it says there that it is a small portion of the exam. I wouldn't (and didn't) spend much time here based on Becker's percentage outlines. Good luck to you all!

I failed three times already for BEC.(70.74.73) I was the one typical candidate who saved BEC because this section was supposed to be the easiest. Ha ha ha! I was so wrong.
This time, I am reading a gleim text book, do questions and plan to do ninja Mcq. I honestly do not know what else I can do for this test, especially for IT section. Do you have any suggestions?

Getting a 74 is brudal. I know how you feel. Is this your last section?
Pumping up a few extra points seems easy but it is not for me!!!

Hopefully we both can pass BEC in Q1 2007:)
