Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knew how long the average essay was in BEC. I know its not the length, its the content, but I am a very concise writer so I want to make sure that I’m not going too short. Thanks!

I just checked a random sample of my Gleim suggested “level 5” responses and most were about 3-5 paragraphs.

It will probably vary by the amount of information presented in the question. However, I think 3-5 would be pretty standard.

It's going to depend on the nature of the question. If you are asked to compare and contrast two different accounting methods, for example, 4 paragraphs (intro, 2 body paragraphs, conclusion) is a natural fit. If you are asked to explain two different accounting methods and recommend one of the two for use in your company, you may need a third body paragraph to balance it out. Some questions may ask you to briefly discuss the components of a certain process or framework, in which case you may get away with only one body paragraph.

Intended audience matters, too. If you're writing to a staff accountant rather than a CFO, you may have to include more explanatory details to make sure they understand the crux of your memo.

It's less about length and more about format and your choice of keywords. Remember that keywords are how the computer grading system knows that you are addressing the question presented and not some other random topic because you don't know how to discuss the topic given.

I received comparable on WC when I took BEC.

I only knew half or most of the answer on 2 of 3, but I can write pretty well and the length was about 10-12 sentences. I feel like if you kinda know it, but can write well, you can get “comparable”. Length isn't that much of a factor.
