    Baxter, if you don't mind my asking, what sections of FAR do you feel like you are weaker in, and what sections are you good at?

    If I took the test tomorrow, I'd FARe well in governmental & NFP. All things straight-up numbers (inventory methods/determination, depreciation/amort) I am also acing questions on and scoring high in my Gleim SIMs. I also have mastered BEPs / DEPs since my last exam.

    My achilles' heel(s): Recievables – they are just confusing to me. Percentage-of-comletion and installment sales: LOATHE, these are just not sticking for me!!

    Other areas I'd say I am either average or… haven't gotten to those chapters yet, ha! Consolidations chapter is queued up for this weekend… I know that's a craptastic subject!

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

    Nbad: That's a good question. On my score report for my last FAR 73 in August, the only section where I scored “weaker” was Framework and Standards (17-23%). This time around I am focusing on that obviously but I'm also struggling with deferred taxes, equity and some of the more detailed bonds questions. Looking back at the detailed topic list for Framework and Standards I see that Financial reporting and disclosure are in that category so I've been brushing up on Cash flows, comprehensive income and the thousands of disclosures. I'm also doing as many sims as possible in Wiley and Gleim. Also, I make a “fact nugget” out of EVERY IFRS question that I come across. I've seen too many on the exams that I was like “WTH? Where did that come from?”

    I'm pretty strong in Government and NFP but I review as much as possible because that is 20%.

    I find that when I study it seems like I am too familiar with the material to really get down deep and hit the weak points. It really does come down to luck of the draw, doesn't it.

    @BaxterCPA … If you really feel that you can't get deep in because the material is familiar, maybe it is time to try different material?

    Sometime the fresh perspective really does help…or something gets explained in a different way. I'm using CPAexcel, and I have to say, sometimes the details as to why a MCQ is right/wrong are very limited. If I can find the same problem online, sometimes I find a different explanation on how it works.

    And I'm sure you've heard the above advice before…but as we all say around here…repetition, repetition, repetition 😉

    I'm not sure what you are using, but if you are on a limited budget (like I am) you might want to try the local library. Mine has the 2013-2014 Wiley books on order. I've got a hold on them for when they come in.

    (BTW, I've been lurking in the Baxter thread for a while now…I'm really rooting for you, good luck!!!!!!)

    FAR - [10/07/2013 --> 66] [07/07/2014 --> 86]
    BEC - [08/31/2014 --> 86]
    AUD - [11/24/2014 --> 88]
    REG - [02/14/2015 --> 92]

    Baxter,

    I just talked to my friend this morning. His FAR section was going to expired on 11/30/12, and they gave him a new expiration date 05/30/13.

    Let me know how it goes.

    Baxter,

    Im glad you took my advice. Im so happy for you, you really deserve this break. Now just pretend you dint get the extension and I never gave you this tip, and just study like crazy.

    I wish I had your perseverance. After passing 3 parts on my frirst try,I lost my FAR credit when I failed Audit. Because of family issues (Divorse), I just gave up.

    Good luck!

    CR7: Thanks for the suggestion. I knew you could request an extension to your NTS for medical reasons but I never dreamed you could get an extension for a passed section. I don't have the extension yet…but I will ask Doc Z. for the letter ILBOA asked for and submit the request. In the meantime, I am studying and planning to pass FAR on Oct 14. =)

    Baxter – You are sounding more positive than in some of the earlier entries! I am glad to see that. I am also hoping that they will extend the dates for you. I have been thinking about you.

    I am doing good. 🙂 My energy is finally returning. I have been not online lately as I have not had much energy left. (work, study and other family medical crisis (just as major as mine!).)
