BaxterCPA, as I may not be “around” the next few days, I wanted to chime in and say good luck! I know you can finish this, and FAR will be finally be defeated! Look forward to hearing how it went, and seeing your passing score. You deserve this, go finish this.

@BaxterCpa,
I don't know what it takes or how it may feel to have an iron infusion, but I am sure there is a place where you can listen to ninja, read flash cards, write notes, or read old notes (record notes and listen to them with soft music background)
We (a71 fam) is here for you…..don't give up. CPA is for you if you choose. Come on let's do this.
When it is over we will all sing hallelujah….
It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to passSeptember 12, 2013 at 2:31 am #475664AnonymousInactiveThanks Kricket and Tncincy. I just don't know tonight…maybe tomorrow I will feel the fire again.
As a short course, I have low iron anemia. My body will not keep iron and when I was first diagnosed (finally!) my levels were so low they were dangerous…almost to the point of hospitalization and needing blood transfusions. Taking iron supplements does not help so I have to have iron fed through an IV into my veins. The appointments are 3-4 hours each at the hospital. I just sit there while they are pumping me full of lead and usually I do study during the treatments. The problem comes after the dose. Too much iron is just as bad as not enough and each treatment is basically a controlled overdose of iron. I go once a week so my body has time to absorb the iron and store it up between appointments. About an hour after each dose, I start to feel like I have the flu…headaches, nausea, fever/chills, dizziness, extreme fatigue, muscles, joints and bones ache, memory problems etc. It takes about 3-4 days to get over the symptoms and just as I start to feel better, it is time for another treatment. It's like trying to study for the cpa exam while you have a severe case of the flu, but you also have to work a full day everyday, deal with your family and life and all that does with that…oh and you get a new case of the flu EVERY week! I had four treatments last window and got a 73 on FAR. For the record, some people have iron iv's and go back to work the same day…for me…it knocks me out every time. I've had 8 so far and need 4 more. My surgery on Oct 16 should correct the problem but unfortunately I have to pass FAR by Oct 18 or lose AUD…so Oct 14 is my last chance.
I can't remember ever being so defeated about anything. Bah humbug!!!

September 12, 2013 at 3:00 am #475666AnonymousInactiveBaxter – What kind of surgery are you having? I'm asking this because I did have to get a blood transfusion a few years ago. I passed out in Wal-mart the day after Christmas. They looked everywhere for a reason for the anemia but found nothing. I got two pints of blood and I got a B-12 shot every week up until I had my surgery in April. I also had to get two IV iron treatments and I reacted exactly like you. I was sick to my stomach and the headache was awful. It turned out that the thyroid cancer was the cause of the pernicious anemia. My iron/blood levels are good now that I got that cancerous b@#$& OUT!

September 12, 2013 at 3:32 am #475668AnonymousInactiveKricket: The anemia started with my lung surgery in 2008 and went undiagnosed until 2011. I started with the IVs in late 2012. I truly wonder if I ever had a real chance of passing any exam that I took before receiving treatments because my levels were so dangerously low. Ferritin of 2.1 for almost 2 years..I'm sure you know how low and dangerous that was/is.. I'm having a hysterectomy in October. We've ruled everything else out. Iron Doc also started me on B-Complex about 8 weeks ago and that changed my life, literally!
I'm so glad you are doing well and that you have the exams behind you!!

as if you weren't having a tuff time already here comes another bump in the road
you're down but you're not out! cuz tuff times don't last but tuff people do, and you're as tuff as they come
you got about a month till test day so you study your tail off the best you can everyday. don't look to far ahead and get overwhelmed, just concentrate on what you have to do that day, day by day till 10/14. some days will be better than others but keep plowing forward
i'm not asking you to pass, i'm asking you to get up and keep moving forward. i'll be proud of you whatever the score
the whole A71 community is cheering for you! you can do it! its possible!
REG-65,71,74,73,70,74,79

September 12, 2013 at 9:38 pm #475672AnonymousInactiveNoLife: Thank you for the sweet supportive post. It really is nice to have friends that stand in the gap when you can't hang on any longer. What state are you in? I'm going to have to take you for a beer to celebrate when I finally pass this monster!. =)
I went to work today and realized I'm mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted. I left work at 11:00 and came home and just crashed. I slept most of the afternoon and feel somewhat human again. I am also taking off tomorrow and the next three Fridays for my treatments. NO more of this trying to work all day and then fit the treatments in because I am such a good worker and so dedicated. Yeah…that's over ha ha!
I have about an hour of work to finish up class assignments for my masters class and then I will have several days to do nothing but rest and study.
As you said…I may NOT pass in October and that would be awful…but I am not giving up! NEVER Give up.
If I fail AUD I have until July 14, 2014 to pass FAR and AUD before I lose REG. Not ideal but it's not the end of the world either!
Thanks Friend…and to everyone at A71 who has suffered through this saga with me!

Well at least you sound like trying one more time.
I like taking it a day at a time.

Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to passSeptember 13, 2013 at 7:15 am #475676TDKRParticipantBaxterCPA, come and think of it, you're the Iron Woman!
You're such an inspiration for us! Despite many setbacks, you kept fighting and here you are… on your final battle with the beast. You need to keep fighting and you must never give up!
I can't help you study, but I can help you get fired up (through music). There are 2 composers who joined forces to form Two Steps From Hell. They wrote a lot of music for movie trailers and a lot of them are what I would describe as epic music. You can listen to some of their music on Spotify (free). They uploaded almost all of their music to Youtube. Here's one of my favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq2ANOkfsIA
People have done compilation of their music too, here's a great one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAsRnFa4NlY
Before you start your studying session: crank the music up (to a reasonably loud level), close your eyes, feel it, and let it help you get fired up!
REG - 72, 72, 81
BEC - 77
FAR - 70, 81
AUD - 74 "so that's what it feels like." Round 2: 79Passing the exam is not impossible task. GIVING UP is the only way YOU can make it impossible!
