If I had a dollar for every time someone gave me bad advice during this CPA process, I wouldn’t need to be a CPA…

“Don’t study/review the day before the exam it won’t do anything for you” UMMMMM it does everything for me. I go over topics I am still a little confused on, I do MCQ, and I have “OH YEAH moments that seem to stick with me on exam day”

“Don’t review the day of the exam” ARE U KIDDING MEEEE do u know how much I go over a specific topic on the day of the exam that I just can’t seem to memorize. Like governmental for FAR, or a certain audit topic, or ratio’s.. and how much it has helped me on the exam.

“Just don’t get your CPA, you already have a degree and can work, right?” oh, okay. Wow.. I never knew that was an option.

“You are only 3 points away from passing, study what confused you and take it again in a week” …No comment

“It’s just a test, stop getting so nervous” not advice but this is possibly the worst of it all

    … :/

I completely agree with you! Sims are where I learned the most about applying the concepts. MC are helpful in getting used to how the questions are asked.

The flashcards were not helpful at all. Some would be so full of info, it's like you are not making this easier to recall these facts.

I think “Only use MCQ” is bad advice.

Is it bad to want to throat-punch people who give me advice?

I’m just kidding, but I do have a violent streak that is growing because I do not have time to run. I am not talking to anyone besides my husband until further notice- which is after my exam. And he just tiptoes around and brings me food to my desk, stretching to sit it down without getting too close. 😂

My wife was tip toeing around me for 6 months…literally and figuratively. We have hard wood floors, no carpets. She runs a home based business with employees coming through pretty regularly. I'd be in my basement and there would be a constant stream of people banging around, dropping things…etc. I'd get angry and yell up, they'd tip toe.

The day I passed the exam my wife screamed…NO MORE TIP TOES! I CAN WEAR SHOES AGAIN!

Oh…and the worst advice is the “the AICPA is out to get you” conspiracy stuff where people tell you it's not your fault, it's THEM, or that you should wait for a magical quarter with easier exams.

None of my family really understand these exams. I always get asked how was the test and I shrug my shoulders saying not sure.. They always say well dont you know how well you did.. They think its like a “regular college exam.” Heck, I never trust my instincts anyways.

The worst is one relative even told me to give up the first time I failed AUD and told me to go find another job. Finish these exams and shut those haters up! Good luck!
