I am applying for new jobs and see Tax and Audit openings within the big 4. Would it look bad to apply for a tax associate position in one location and audit associate position in another with the same firm? Also, does anyone think these audit associate positions will be starting this audit season. Seems like it would be too late as most new hires started but who knows. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would apply for all of the positions. Don't just put yourself in one bucket. If you are just now applying you will probably miss this busy season.

I've always heard that it was bad to apply for multiple positions at one firm. I could see the logic behind that but not sure if there is any truth to it.

Campus recruiting for me was well over 3 years ago, and at that point, it was frowned upon to apply for multiple positions in the same firm. Not sure about your position now….

I've heard that applying to multiple positions to be bad as well but I think you are more likely to get a job by applying to multiple positions within the firm rather than apply to one and hope that one picks you. The only person that knows that you applied to multiple positions is the hr recruiter, not the hiring manager, and often the hr recruiter that initially screens your resume is not the same one you end up talking to anyway.
