The Prometric center has extended the testing window until 12/7 for the past two years because of weather. Anyone know if they are doing the same this year?

The weird thing about the Chicago storm is that I don't remember anyone on A71 posting their exam was cancelled (and I'm guessing we have plenty of takers in that area.) The only closures on prometrics website was yesterday and today in Spokane WA. Those Chicago people must just carry on with business as usual in the snow.

It could happen but there is no way to know for sure so don't plan on it. Check once in a while when you have time but be prepared for your current test date for now.

If I see that it opens up I'll post it here.

Positivethoughts, I will also post here if I find something. I'm not banking on it, but I will check even the day before the exam. Good Luck!

I just got a call saying that my testing center is closed tomorrow and that I would have to reschedule. I called my testing center and they said that as far as they know, they are going to be open tomorrow. I'm super confused. Am I supposed to show up tomorrow morning or what? Also, does anyone know how the rescheduling works? I'm absolutely not allowed to take off work during the first 1.5 weeks of the month for any reason. Am I going to be able to reschedule for next Saturday? This has me so stressed out!

Just breathe – If they said they're going to be open, show up and take the test as scheduled.

BananaPancakes, is this because of winter storm Cara? If they do give an extension, it will be until the 7th of December, so you will be able to take it the following Saturday or Sunday.

I'm just confused about the conflicting information…the Prometric website/emails/1-800 phone calls said they were closed, yet the actual testing center said they would be open.

I just got another email and call from the 1-800 Prometric number once again saying that my testing center would be closed tomorrow. This time it said that I needed to go to Prometric's website to reschedule. I went to see if the testing window had been extended into December, but it isn't showing any openings in December. NASBA is closed, so I can't call them to ask about the testing window. I tried calling Prometric's main number (not my local testing center) but they are closed.

Sorry not sure what you are supposed to do, maybe someone else who has been in your situation can advise.

But wanted to post that I saw there are some closings on the prometric site https://www.prometric.com/en-us/pages/siteclosure.aspx

I would assume whatever prometric says is accurate instead of what the testing center says. But I've never been in this situation so not sure.

As for rescheduling, if they extend it I think they only let you know about the extension at the very end of the month.

If you are not that far from the prometric center, I would just go and see for myself if they are in fact open. On the other hand, if you really could use the extra eight days, I would go with what the website says, and also the two phone calls you received. The problem with the second advice will be if they don't extend the testing window. There were cancelations last year right before Nov 30, so they decided to extend the testing window until December 7th.

Wait. So there is a possibility that they may not extend the testing window?

It would make sense for them to extend it since there are site closings. But can't really know for sure until they make announcement about extensions or we see seats open up in Dec on the website.

@Banana – you never ever count on it being extended.

A friend of mine told me that he took his first exam on 12/7/12, and I know for a fact that they have also extended in 2013 and 2014 because of the cancellations receive during the month of November. I would think that they will do it again this year, and this was my argument with two other individuals, but now I don't know because of what they mentioned above.

Like Positivethoughts mentioned, they usually do it the 29th.

Banana, There is a very real possibility that they won't extend the window. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but would hate to see anyone banking on an extension that may very well not happen. I would strongly urge you to prepare assuming your center staff is correct that they're open tomorrow, then call in the morning to confirm and continue on to your appointment. If you call in the morning and they're not open, then call all day Sunday to try to get in touch and see if you can test Sunday. As bad as it would be for those who are testing at closed locations, there is a chance that NASBA would choose to NOT extend the window even if some locations are closed at the end of the window. Based on Banana's post and Positivethought's link, looks like at least 3 if not more locations are closed. NASBA could choose to extend the window based on these 3, but to make a national decision based on 3 localities may not be something that NASBA decides to do. If it isn't, then to not even try to go tomorrow would mean that you'd miss your opportunity to test. So, I would strongly urge you to proceed to try to test tomorrow (unless you go and they're closed or you try repeatedly to call tomorrow and get no answer), because if you find out later that they were open and that NASBA doesn't extend, or say only extends to Friday (and from what you've said, you wouldn't be able to test till Saturday), that would be very disappointing.

That being said, it is possible they would extend. In prior years, more than 3 locations were closed, so I wouldn't be counting on it yet…but they very well could. Only time will tell. So, still plan to take your scheduled tests between now and 11/30, but if anything changes between now and then, by all means take advantage of it if you're able to do so.
