Anyone who has no tax experience thought REG was an easy exam?

I usually hear how hard an exam is on this forum but rarely hear from candidates who thinks the exam is easier than anticipated. I’m currently studying for REG and find the material much easier to grasp than the other topics. One of the reason is REG is more interesting and doesn’t cover multiple topics that do not relate to one another like FAR and BEC.

I don't find REG easy by any means, but I like studying for it more than any other section. Most of the material is stuff you can relate to in real life, whether it's filing your taxes or some of the blaw stuff like contracts or sales law.

It's easier to learn something when it actually interests you, but there's so much you need to know that it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. I feel I have a good grasp of the material, but there's so many little things they can test you on. Those little things ultimately become the reason for many people passing or not.

    FAR: 75 Roger & Ninja (notes/flashcards/audio/MCQ)
    AUD: 73, 81
    BEC: 71, retake 8/29

I enjoyed studying for REG compared to any of the other sections. For me, I have no experience in tax and have not even taken an income tax accounting course, so it was all new material to me. I think I enjoyed learning the material more than anything. All of the other exams were a review for me, so I didn't have that enjoyment.

REG was my favorite one to study for, unfortunately I went under-prepared and did not pass – there are a lot of small details that you need to remember so do not under-estimate it.

    Still my favorite one.

    AUD 7/6/16 Passed
    BEC 9/3/16
    FAR TBD
    REG TBD

the Reg mcq was easy for me (“stronger” in 4 sections, “comparable” in 2)

    the simulations? ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff……

I could have posted this a few months ago. REG seemed to be so much more straightforward than the other sections. I even walked out confident. I nearly failed, which was a major wake up call. Don't underestimate any section!

    MS, Accounting - Done!

    FAR - 83 (CPAexcel/Ninja MCQ)
    AUD - 87 (CPAexcel/Ninja MCQ)
    REG - 10/16
    BEC - 11/16

These exams aren't as hard as people make them out to be. If you understand your course review book, you'll do well. It's 90% mental and 10% exam toughness. Just be diligent in your studies and walk into the exam with confidence (:

    AUD: 98
    FAR: 95
    REG: July 11, 2016
    BEC: August 8, 2016

I will say though, I could see how someone could easily flunk REG. Its more based on memorization than conceptually. I understand the material but the % rules and what not really has no rhyme or reason. I'm a candidate who choose not to read the books. I fear the lectures and homework questions cannot possibly cover everything.

I'm really curious to know who used Becker and passed without reading the book for REG.

Three lawyers have personally told me the CPA exams are more challenging than the Bar. I'm pretty sure that means these exams are Hard! My personal experience – yes, these exams are definitely Hard! Much, much harder than any accounting exams I took as an undergrad!! Sure, these exams are not rocket science, but the amount of material you must thoroughly understand and be able to apply in a high stress environment is pretty insane! Anyhow, Goodluck everyone. I am not looking forward to taking REG!

    For what it's worth…

One of the CPAs in our office who started here before she completed her degree and then was doing lots of really relevant tax work as she was studying for the exam, blew through the other parts, no problem.

She didn't really study much for Reg, thinking, “no sweat.” She ended up getting a 75–just barely she thinks… and said in retrospect, it was a terrible idea to slack off.

BTW, just so no one thinks this is a good idea because it all worked out, this person is an expert test taken: National Merit Scholar, 800s on her SAT, etc.

Once you pass a section that section becomes easy.I took three attempts to pass BEC but now I call it was easy.I took AUD twice and got 70 feel it's tough. So much materials are there in each section that you can call it tough but if you are able to remember those materials and “needle pinching” questions then yes it is easy.BTW I passed REG in first try but still feel it was not any easier then BEC or AUD. Having background in that subject gives you false confidence or illusion , I worked in IT for most my career and always got weak in IT sub section.

I have no tax experience and only took the 2 required tax courses in college/grad school. I thought REG was the least painful both in terms of studying and the actual test. I felt like I did well on it which I can't say for the other 3. It sort of makes me wish I had pursued a career in tax instead.

    4 for 4

    FAR 85
    AUD 94
    BEC 86
    REG 90

I've never done taxes prior to taking REG. The tax portion was easy, the Blaw was difficult at first and still difficult because there was so much info in Becker lol.

Overall it is easy to study except for the Blaw, f that part.

Waffle: I wish Tax was easier than Blaw for me. I pretty much breezed through law. Tax is not overly difficult but definitely harder to remember # and % that makes no sense at all (except to people who wrote it).
