    For those who went to the Texas Swearing In Ceremony, what was the reception like afterwards? Was it a full sit down formal type reception or could you sort of just come and go as you please?

    Thanks!

    @Shiggity80

    I myself havent gone and not sure if I'll go in December.

    Here is the link https://www.tsbpa.state.tx.us/info/2013012501.html in which the last paragraph provided below discusses the informal reception. It sounds like you can just come and go. Even if it was formal, they cant take you hostage so if you want to leave, just get up and leave.

    “A reception afterward offers the opportunity for new licensees and their families to mingle and talk informally with Board members, 50-year members, and other newly licensed CPAs, some of whom they might have known from college. It's a grand opportunity to bask in your achievement and kick off a career for which you have worked long and hard.”

    Guys,

    I attended the ceremony not too long aog.. Last yr, it was.

    It's a great feeling and feels like a sense of accomplishment. We walked in at 9am and the the whole process was for about 2 hrs or so.

    There will be tea/ coffee and cookies served and once they ask the candidates to seat, you will have to go and sit down. Just like a normal graduation ceremony.

    But, i was not going to miss it, what a feeling it was when they said my name and i walked up on the stage to receive my certificate. Later on you can take pictures with the tx accountancy board members and some networking as well….

    Thanks for that. I swear I've read that site so many times and did not once see it say it was informal haha.

    They will seat you by your last name. And so its exactly like a graduation ceremony, you will line up walk up on the stage, pick your certificate and get down from the stage from the other side and you will be back on your seat again, till they finsih the process from A-Z by last name. It will go super fast…

    Ah I see. haha, yeah I hope it goes by quickly. I graduated as an Engineer for my undergrad and I can't even remember how many students we had graduating from all the different engineering schools. Including undergrad and grad, we probably had over a thousand. Took damn near 3 hours.
