Another crack at REG

So I’ve been struggling with REG and have taken it 3 times but haven’t been able to pull it out.

First time I took it with Becker and got really a low score, so I said it’s ok just gotta sit with the material longer. The second time I my becker expired so all I used was Ninja MCQ and got a 69. So I was knocking at the door. Then the 3rd time all I did was used Ninja MCQ and just got more familiar with the concepts and get higher percentages in all areas. Took the exam and got a 63. So I’m stuck. I don’t really know what to do study wise or if I’m doing something wrong or something.

Is there anything anybody can recommend? How has audio helped for folks? Is Ninja MCQ enough? How do I prepare properly for the sims? I feel like I’ve hit a wall.

You need a fresh start from square one, whether it's with Ninja or another program.

Ninja Audio is good, but I would say that it adds a few extra points to your exam, not a lot. In order of value for me it went: MCQ>Ninja Notes>Ninja Audio.

It's possible to pass using only Ninja MCQs, though I think it's very difficult. Others on this forum have done it, but they're the exception – not the rule. How many MCQ's did you do when you were using only Ninja MCQs and what were your trending and average scores?

Preparing for the Sims is tough. The best thing to prep for the sims is to know the material backward and forward.

I vote for using the Ninja method. Even if you don't watch videos, copy the Ninja Notes (or whatever notes you use) at least twice, once from the original notes and a second time from your first copy. Then MCQ hard – take extensive notes on the ones you get wrong until you understand what you did wrong.

Gleim is a good one. The questions are pretty much the same as Ninja, but I like how they organize the material. I think it goes

First two chapters – Professional Responsibilities
    Next 3 – Individual Tax
    Property Tax
    Next 4 – Corporate Tax
    The rest BLAW.

There are 20 chapters all together and they break everything down even further by the sub-unit. I used them for Auditing, and was able to finally pass.

I second wombataholic. You definitely need to get back to the drawing board and start from scratch. Now, I know that it gets very boring when you're reading something you think you know very well but you just have to relearn it and attempt a reasonable amount of questions, from multiple sources, to assess your areas of concern.

But then you also need to refresh your mind on areas which you are stronger or comparable. You just have to keep on going, don't stop, don't give up, but also, don't fire your weapon too soon. Take your time to allow the knowledge to simmer in your mind.

I'm in the same boat, took reg 2x's both really low scores, dropped cpaexcel and am using ninja. I didn't think I put in enough study time before taking the test, nor did I reach the review stage of the mcq's…It's the little things. I am a big fan of the audio and the notes, but you must drill those mc questions. Put in the study time.

    It begins with a 75

I failed REG and started from scratch. WRITE OUT YOUR OWN FLASHCARDS and take them everywhere. People will think you're nuts, but you really are nuts if you're taking this exam 😉

    FAR - 75
    AUD - 83
    BEC - 85
    REG - 72, retake October 2015 - 85 PASS!

    And I'm DONE. Praise!

I really appreciate it guys. What exactly is Ninja Notes, I plan to purchase but don't really know what they are. Also how helpful are ninja notes & ninja audio?

I agree with Womb. My studies revolved around thousands of MCQ's, Notes, and Audio. I took a lot of Notes, and read the Ninja Notes a few times. I also watched Blitz videos a couple of times.

If you've gone through ninja mcq 2x already and have been honest with taking notes and learning why your answers are right/wrong, doing the same thing a 3rd time probably won't help. It sounds like this method isn't for working for you. You probably need to invest in a new review course and not just a test bank of questions. A new review course can help put it all together for you and explain things to you in a way that will get you to 75.

    BEC - 75 (3x)
    AUD - 78 (3x)
    REG - 67, 66, Aug 1
    FAR - 54, Sept 8
