My intentions were to pass the CPA exam before the end of 2015, since I have not passed, I am renewing my ptin # and am wondering is any one following up on the AFSP for non credential tax preparers. Has any one taken any steps to have the registered preparer status?

I have been a registered tax return preparer for the past few years. Currently, I am finishing up the required CPE courses to be able to “practice before the IRS”. That just means that I can still represent my clients if there is an issue on their returns. Not even close to what an EA or a CPA can do, but I think its necessary for my clients. I have a loyal set of clients who have me do their taxes each year. My loyal ones bring me new ones every year.

Tax season is pretty lucrative for my side income. So, I do whatever I need to in order to keep serving my clients. Yes it is a pain to jump through their hoops, but the extra income and exoerience makes it worth it.

Good luck during the upcoming season. 🙂

@rjh2001, I am completing the cpe credits now. I have a thing for proof of qualification. I guess being registered couldn't hurt. I'm looking to build my business any way I can, especially passing the cpa exam. Thanks for your response. Yet open for response.
