Am I memorizing the MC's?

So I was studying the A1 topic that covers the topic of audit opinions, and I wasn’t performing as well as I wanted to. One reason for my poor performance was due to the fact that I wasn’t comprehending the question. After redoing and attempting the multiple choice questions multiple of times, I was started answering more and more questions correctly, and also developed a better understanding for the topic. With that in mind, I also noticed that I was comprehending the questions before actually fully reading them. Is this an incorrect way of studying? Is that considered memorizing?

Studying like this is what got me through college. My professors exams came from the textbook’s test banks, which I’d study and practice throughout the semester.

When I “get” a topic, I often have a pretty good feel for what is being asked before I finish reading the question. I think you would know if you are really memorizing. If you don't, once you are done studying, buy another test bank. If you perform similarly you will know how well you get the material.

I'm not sure the “memorizing” an answer is always a negative thing.

If you have the answered memorized, and you can justify it to some degree other than, “I know that's the right answer,” the it sounds like you're on your way to dominating the exam.

Good luck! Sounds like your putting in a lot of hard work.

Do not memorize MCs – that strategy will never win. Instead, focus on the concepts and practice your critical-thinking when attempting to address the concepts. Although the practice exams/questions are similar to the exam, they are not the exam. Fixating to questions will cause you to be disoriented when you sit because of the difference between the actual exam and your prep.

Make sure to read the explanations for the incorrect answers as well as the correct answer. You will memorize some of the MCQ to a degree, but you should have a feel for whether or not you understand it. Could you explain the answer to someone else?

Go through the AICPA released questions for the past couple of years for some additional free questions. Although it is not recommended by some because they are not officially released questions, I used cpareviewforfree to check my understanding in some areas when I felt I needed additional study material.

Our value does not come from our skills and abilities, as good as they may be; it does not come from our GPA, our job, a promotion from that job to a better job, our success on the CPA exam, or anything of the like; but our value comes from the fact that we have a Creator who loves us, cares for us, and desires to help us navigate the rough waters of this life in a way that provides security, hope, and true, everlasting joy while we anticipate the life to come, with Him.
