After 1.5 years of working I still feel like idk anything.. I mean I still feel very incompetent on certain things. A lot of people I started with are already taking more responsibilities and doing higher level work. While Im still doing some low tier work (preparing returns vs reviewing them). I believe I will start reviewing something small next tax season as one of my coworker keep mentioning.. Im just curious, how should I approach my team partner next month when I have a mid year review. I mainly do 1040’s and obviously that won’t land me another job if I were to go private. I wanna do more business returns but in a certain industry. Im having issue phrasing it and not coming out as rude or demanding. I just dont like the client industry I work on now as I feel like I’m not understanding a lot of stuff. I just wanna try something else and see if I can better understand. Right now I do a lot of manufacturing clients ( a few like 2 maybe, 1065 and 1120 throughout the whole year).
I have been thinking a lot about getting out of public accounting recently, but again with my limited experience on the business returns I doubt I will land any job anytime soon. Hence, I want to build up that knowledge for partnerships and Corporation next tax season so I can start branching out. Thanks!
Any advice would be appreciated.
