MMParticipantHello everyone,
I have been trying to pass the exam for a while now. I just can’t get through one part, it is making want to consider if I can even do this.
I do want to evaluate my study pattern and see if maybe I am doing something wrong. I am using Yeager CPA Review. I like the material, and I can follow it pretty well. I usually get home from work and study for 2 hours. I go through the videos and do the MCQs they do in the lecture. I also bought the Ninja Notes and I re-write those when I am done with the lectures. I try to do that twice, also I read throught the notes. Then, I do MCQs from the test bank. I don’t want to give up my life completely, but it is something I just need to do to get through this?? I was thinking of maybe trying out the classes on Saturdays, Have any of you done that? How was that experience?
Thanks!

AnonymousInactiveAgreed–Stick with one part, retake it at the beginning of July, use the 8 weeks of July and August to study for one of the smaller exams (BEC, AUD) and take that at the end of August. I had to pretty much give up everything to pass the ones I have passed so far. In the long run I would rather give up a year of my fun, nonCPA things than to stretch this exam out for a long period of time.

MMParticipantSo do you suggest I stick with Audit? I have taken audit 4 times and nothing. I remember reading that you have to start all over with your studying if you don't pass.

Not a QuitterParticipantAbsolutely. I don't know what your scores have been but I bet you are pretty close to passing. Yes, you do need to study all material again but if you wait and start on a new part and then go back to it you will be way farther behind than you are now. You will have forgotten a lot. I would suggest not sitting until you are getting at least an 80% average on your study material. Does Yaegar keep up with an average score for you?

GSU-CPAMemberWhat are your scores for Audit? Are they improving???
You have to be doing something wrong if you are indeed putting in the time but constantly failing. What was your GPA in college how did you do in accounting class?Did you find accounting classes extremely difficult?
We need more information to help you.
When you are studying are you just studying to study or are you actually understanding the concepts and retaining the information. I just made a thred recently where i was asking others if they are like me. When i study more then 3 hrs a day i notice that i might continue studying but my mind is just not retaining information that much. My focus goes way down and my mind starts wondering about random ish.
REG-77
BEC -Waiting on score May 5th
AUD - May 30
FAR - Q3 depending on if i pass above two in Q2May 13, 2014 at 4:57 pm #552809

AnonymousInactiveYou are not alone! Don't give up. If you haven't already purchased them, get the NINJA notes, write fact nuggets in the white space and study them every single day. You can do this!

AGIParticipantTo MM:
I work too, and I totally understand how hard it is to pass the test while you are working. I complain about it everyday and of cause, complain even more after I find out I fail it.
First of all, studying have nothing to do with your hours or how many question you do in general. Of cause, if you know you suck in a particular subject, you should study more. Studying had to do with your attitude … if you are tired and you are “not in the mood” of studying, or if you are angry, then you should stop studying. Looking at the questions and the book is not going to help, and when you start doing them all wrong, you will get upset and feel like your life sucks.
If you can do 2 hours of studies after work, that's great. Personally, I only do one hour (which is about 50 – 100 question in FAR) and call it a day. If I continue to do more, I start losing my focus and I will do all of them wrong. I think try to keep yourself up in a good studying mood is the key to pass the test. Getting good grade makes you feel happy and you got your motivation. (At least that works in FAR!) I also supply myself with plenty of good food, sleep and computer games.
I was able to pass FAR after 3-4 months by doing this 1 hour weekend 3 hour weekend plan (each day). I used an outdated Becker TB and self study with Wiley book and Wiley TB. I did not attend any class or online video. Just books. I did intensive research (means Google and Youtube the topic to narrow down papers). I kinda take notes but I spend most of my time doing the questions. I read maybe 50% of the book and I did not copy my note again.
My theory:
If I got the time to rewrite my notes, why don't I do some more questions?
If I have the time to read the book again, why don't I do some more questions?
If I got the time to attend a class, why don't I do some more questions?
(Cause I still got to read the book after class.) (Plus, I fall asleep in class because it's just so boring).
If I can Google the answer and other people's note, why should I write my own notes?
(Just print it out and add-on to the existing paper)
I also don't think GPA in college classes really determine if you know anything in accounting. I got an awesome C- and I still manage to pass FAR.
Personally, I am not a NINJA Video or NINJA note user, so I can really comment. For FAR, instead of writing notes, I generally just write out all the formulas on blank sheets of paper in huge front. Stick it on your bathroom door and you will be able to remember it eventually. (According to mom, bathroom is the most frequently visited place at home. Every time you use it you will see it twice.) For things that you need to memorize in writing, I write them in my native language (of cause not English). If I can translate it into another language, that means I am thinking about it in my brain. Writing it in a more familiar language also help shorten your note reading time. The word just stands out and within 0.1 sec, you get it.
