    Hello everyone,

I have been trying to pass the exam for a while now. I just can’t get through one part, it is making want to consider if I can even do this.

I do want to evaluate my study pattern and see if maybe I am doing something wrong. I am using Yeager CPA Review. I like the material, and I can follow it pretty well. I usually get home from work and study for 2 hours. I go through the videos and do the MCQs they do in the lecture. I also bought the Ninja Notes and I re-write those when I am done with the lectures. I try to do that twice, also I read throught the notes. Then, I do MCQs from the test bank. I don’t want to give up my life completely, but it is something I just need to do to get through this?? I was thinking of maybe trying out the classes on Saturdays, Have any of you done that? How was that experience?

    Thanks!

How many MCQs are you doing? Just from the sound of your email I'd venture you aren't doing enough and are spending too much time reading and writing.

    FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
    BEC- 75
    REG- 60,60,75
    AUD- 74,74,83

CPAExcel used for BEC, AUD, REG
Exam Matrix used for FAR plus NINJA Blitz, cpareviewforfree and a little CPAExcel

I ususally break them up as if I am taking the testlets in the exam. My last go around for Audit, I did a lot of MCQs. I don't know exactly how many I did. Should I watch the lectures?

It depends on what kind of learner you are. For me, I am an experience learner and I have to do lots of multiple choice questions and SIMS in order to fully understand the concepts. Watching lecture videos does nothing for me and just reading a book word for word doesn't either (I look up things as I go along). But videos and books are better resources for some people in understanding concepts. Regardless of what kind of learner you are you should be doing tons a multiple choices questions. Until the point that you feel like vomiting if you do one more!

I strongly agree with NotaQuitter. I spent too much time going over concepts for FAR, I figured if I knew the stuff in the book I could do any problem. Well, turns out I couldn't do any problem, only finished 1200 out of 1400 WTB questions, and bombed the exam. I personally learn better from doing questions and repetition. I am not sure why I strayed away from that while studying for this test. But my point is, find the way you learn best, trust it, and repeat questions over and over again. Repetition is truly the only way to learn it and reduce test anxiety I've come to find.

@MM, Auditing was mostly memorization for me. Make notes of the important mnemonics, then do as many MCQ as possible! I really enjoy Becker and supplementing Ninja Audio and Notes. I didn't like Yeager, but to each his own. 🙂

    REG - 75
    BEC - 76
    AUD - 76
    FAR - 84, DONE 11/9/14!

Thanks everyone, that is what I am trying to do right now. Evaluating my study habits and trying to figure out if there is something that I am doing that it is hurting me, rather than help me. I will do more MCQs my next go around. I am studying for FAR right now. Trying a different part and see if I can this one under my belt. It is ver discouraging seeing that score when you thought you did well. I don't want to give up!

MM are you switching up parts? I strongly urge you to stick with the one part you've been trying to pass! In the long run it will be a more efficient use of your time (in my experience).

Agreed–Stick with one part, retake it at the beginning of July, use the 8 weeks of July and August to study for one of the smaller exams (BEC, AUD) and take that at the end of August. I had to pretty much give up everything to pass the ones I have passed so far. In the long run I would rather give up a year of my fun, nonCPA things than to stretch this exam out for a long period of time.
