I am scheduled to take BEC on Jan 18, first time for any of the parts. I started studying slightly over a week ago, having trouble understanding/retaining the information. Using Becker self study and am towards the end of B1. Any one have advice on how to go through the chapters, maybe purchase Ninja Notes to supplement? Working full time at a mid-sized firm and currently have no work, occasionally have other obligations during week nights.. MY NTS expires May 31, considering pushing off until then. Would greatly appreciate advice. Thanks!

I just took BEC in November and used Becker self study as well… Here is how I studied for the exam, not saying it is the most efficient or correct way, but maybe it will help you.

For each chapter I read the material while taking notes, then listened to the lectures while taking any additional notes and then completed the homework. I did this section by section. At the end of the chapter I would then take a progress test. I didn't really complete any of the sims, I just read through the answers.

Chapters 2 & 3 took me the longest to get through. While taking the progress tests, if there was a chapter I did poorly on I would go back and refresh.

Sounds like a good method. Did you memorize concepts or make flashcards?

I don't know how it is with Becker, but I used Roger's. Honestly, thinking back, I can see how people thought this exam was EASIER of the 3 (note I didn't say easiest). I did lectures, read the chapter more thoroughly, took good notes, do questions after every chapter (at least 50). I kept doing cumulative chapter quizzes as I finished more chapters. Once I was done with all the chapters, I rewrote my notes, shorthand. I did all the questions from Roger's.

I bought NINJA MCQ (which came with NINJA blitz, score!) to supplement. I did those similar to how I did the chapter quizzes. No flashcards, I tried. It's hard. I didn't know how much information I could write on them. BUT I did rewrite ALL the formulas a couple of times (I did this the WEEK of the exam, like just twice). As you do more problems, you'll internalize the formulas more. I know that by the exam date, I had the formulas down. Roger compiled most of the formula in one chapter and I rewrote that a couple of times, in addition to redoing the MCQs for that section as well.

I would be more worried about memorizing IT than formulas, honestly. That section is annoying.

I made note cards for the formulas – mainly chapters 2 & 3
