Hello – I’m in a slightly sticky situation and thought I’d ask my fellow A71ers for help. I came to the States as an international student for my undergrad and started working for a Big 4 last year. I was able to qualify for the CPA and have passed two so far. Unfortunately, my student visa is coming to an end and even though my firm is applying for my work visa, my chances of getting it look slim considering the amount of applicants this year (for those who’re not familiar with the process, work visas are assigned based on a lottery process). I do not see lucrative career options in my field back in my hometown so the only fall back option I have is to go back to school and request my firm to apply again next year. Since MBA programs recommend 3-5 years of work experience and they’re longer and costlier, I’ve decided to apply for the Masters in Accounting program. A lot of students apply for a Big 4 after graduating from MAc and may be pursuing MAc for deeper insight into some fields, more hands-on experience, better communication skills etc. to open up more job opportunities. Considering my situation, what are some strong reasons I can present in my application for pursuing MAc? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
