Advice needed!

So I have worked at the home office of an insurance company for many years, but not in the accounting department. I work with numbers, data, and bonuses.

I received my Enrolled Agent designation while taking this CPA ride, but the absolute earliest I can hope to be done with the CPA exam is early December……that’s assuming I passed REG (won’t find out until 11/4) and manage to pass FAR (scheduled to take on 11/30).

So, having my EA and tax season around the corner I applied to a few small firms (5-10 employees) in my town. I have a phone call interview tomorrow at 10am.

I have NEVER done an accounting interview, and was curious if any of you that have could tell me what I should be prepared for as far as questions as well as what you think the smaller firm might be looking for that I might choose to lean on a bit?

Below is the meat of the posting for the job opening:

“CPA firm has an immediate opening for an auditor / accountant who is interested in joining an established but growing organization. Successful applicant will have or be actively pursuing a CPA certificate and have 0-3 years experience in public accounting. Demonstrated competencies in auditing and / or taxation a plus. Initial position responsibilities will include work in both audit and tax. Some general accounting responsibilities will be assigned over time. Occasional overnight travel will be required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. Mature judgment, a strong work ethic and a desire to succeed are essential.”
