So, I was thinking that this could be fun…if you are looking for a distraction.

I need your help coming up with a job title for a new position my organization is developing. I am coming to you because myself and my Controller are at a loss. As a reference point to what our accounting department manages, our assets currently sit at $6.9 billion with an equity balance of $3.2 billion. Some of the duties will include:

    – Assist in organization wide monthly financial reporting to the board of directors

    – Manages two ledgers (minimal amount) of two separate entities who have contracted with us to do their accounting

    – Accounts for $500 million concessionaire agreement related to a $2.2 billion capital project

    – Prepares Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports

    – Acts as Treasurer for organization related 501(c)3

    – Assists in annual budget preparation

    – Part of team involved in variance analyses

    – Performs financial reviews of outside companies for potential contracts

    – Part of team in charge of identifying financing for capital projects and asset acquisitions

So, it has accounting and debt and finance and 10 other miscellaneous things.

Help!! You know, if you’d like to avoid working/studying right now.

No idea… but I wouldn't take that job for less than 125k /yr.

    FAR: 84 on 4/4/13
    AUD: 91 on 7/27/13
    BEC: 72 on 11/11/13, 82 on 01/03/14
    REG: 80 on 02/27/14

70-90k for senior position is really low. I'm with joelseph, somewhere around 125k.

    Assistant Controller

Title doesn't really matter. It's the job responsibilities that do.

I've seen CFO's be the CFO/Controller/COO/HR guy all in one job. What's important is that the candidate has the skills to be flexible to different areas outside of his/her comfort zone, has a history of adapting to very different situations, and that the salary is appropriate for the amount of work performed.

However, at the end of the day those duties sound a bit too broad IMO. I'd expect to at least get subordinate to handle specific aspects of the position (thinking a specialized treasury person). I think spreading it out too much is asking for a disaster. “Bad news bears” really.

    Mayo, BBA, Macc
