Accounting GPA?

Reading around the forum it appears people sometimes include a separate GPA for just accounting core classes on their resume. Is this looked upon favorably?

I ask because my overall undergrad GPA was a 3.2 (was a ~2.3 after my first semester freshman year…) and my core accounting class GPA is around a 3.4/3.5. Definitely a big jump in terms of recruiting benchmarks.

    Thanks!

Yeah, if it helps, include it.

I had something like Overall GPA: 3.7, Accounting GPA: 3.8

Not a huge difference, but if you can show a relevant subsection of coursework, I say go for it!

Sounds good to me. A quick check shows it's actually a 3.365, close enough to put down 3.4 for me :P.

You might want to be careful about rounding your GPA. One of my professors told the story of a former student who who rounded his GPA from a 3.48 to a 3.5 on his resume and then applied to an internship that required 3.5. He got the internship but once they found out that he had rounded his GPA, they rescinded the offer. Still not sure how they found out though.

^not sure I'd want to work for that place. Math says 3.48 rounds to 3.5. If they wanted 3.5 and no less, they should have asked for no less than 3.5000 lol

Jeez, a .02 difference is definitely harsh thing to rescind an offer for. I was under the impression it was the norm to round within reason, rather than to have a bunch of decimal places on a resume. I can always put “accounting GPA” rather than

“accounting class” GPA, which would cover the non-ACCT classes still specific to the major as well. Those classes combined put me above the 3.4 mark.

Of course I should just be focusing on making my grad GPA a 4.0 so I won't have to round :).

If the grades that are pulling you down came in your freshman year, you may want to consider dropping the “Accounting GPA” idea and doing an “Upper-Division GPA” and “Overall GPA”

This may do a better job showing that you goofed up during the beginning semesters when you had to adjust to the new lifestyle of being college, but since then have figured your sh*t out.
