30 Hour Accounting Course Requirement

Hopefully someone can help me out here…

I graduated from Miami Oxford, 25 accounting hours from there, including 170 total semester hours.

In addition, I took a 3 hour class from Sinclair after graduating.

Is anyone familiar with the accounting information systems option as counting towards the accounting class fulfillment? I took a couple of computer programming classes and a MIS (Management Information Systems) class as well. Does anyone know if those would count?

Any direction here would be greatly appreciated! Aiming to sit for BEC this May.

It looks like an accounting information systems class would count, but the computer classes would probably not count toward the accounting requirement. From the Accountancy Board of Ohio:

“Note concerning accounting course requirement: One course in computer information systems, if begun prior to May 7, 2003, counts as an accounting course. However, courses in accounting information systems still count as accounting courses.” https://acc.ohio.gov/CPAExam.aspx

How many of your accounting hours were above the introductory level? It looks like Ohio (which was the jurisdiction I was guessing you might be applying to) requires 30 hours of accounting, or only 24 hours of accounting above the introductory level.

    FAR - 75
    AUD - 72; 87
    REG - 64; 74; 84
    BEC - 88

    Done!!

Usually if the word accounting is in the title it will count.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

I actually took it in the fall of 2002 and just received confirmation from cpaes coordinator that it would count towards fulfilling the 30 hour accounting course requirement in Ohio. Thanks for the response.
