2017 Exam Changes

    Hello all, I am attempting my last exam (FAR) for the second time on 1/6/17. If I pass, then I will be done forever. Does anyone think that with the new exam changes coming into play on 4/1/17, that the AICPA will make all of the exams more difficult in 1Q17 in order to make people have to pass their “new” form of the exam starting 2Q17? I am just hoping that I can be done before all of these changes start, and honestly, I could see the AICPA doing something like this.

    Just wanted to get others thoughts!

    I doubt the AICPA does anything like this, it would be extremely unethical and a disservice to the profession… I wouldn't worry about the changes unless you fail, you still have plenty of time to pass.

    I only have one more chance to pass before the changes. (1Q17) If I fail then, the changes would be in effect…so not much time

    I wouldn't look at it that way mj, otherwise you will psych yourself out.

    You have another chance at the exam, don't go in thinking “this is my last chance”, go in thinking “this is my last test”. The mindset you take can be one of the biggest advantages you have when taking this exam. I'm in the same situation, I took my final exam, FAR, on Monday for a second time. I went in thinking that this time would be different. I felt more at ease over my test this time than I did last time. As long as you do what you can, and don't give up, you can pass in January, or whenever you take it in the first quarter.

    A lot of people get caught up with things like “If I fail today, I lose this exam” or “if I don't pass, I don't know how I can do this again”. This exam is just as much of a mental test as it is a test of understanding. If I find out next Tuesday that I failed FAR again, I'll just buckle down and get ready for the test again! Until then though, I have done what I could, and I can't dwell on the things I can't change now, which is why I never look up questions I remember from the exam.

    So a few things I've read.

    1) (the most obvious) BEC and REG are the biggest changes 2Q 2017

    2) 10 week score release period for 2Q 2017, WTF!? How does that work for people who have an exam dropping in 3Q and waiting to hear if they passed 2Q? Are they supposed to wait till the August 15th score release and if they fail rush back to studying before 3Q ends? Surely they have to grant a grace period for this correct?

    3) Speculation–AICPA in discussion changing the 18 month pass window to 24 months. Also, they have talked about allowing retakes for failed exams in the same quarter (I find this one extremely hard to believe).

    So for part 2 I have already addressed my concerns. For part 3, when would they announce this? Have they hinted at all or is this something that has been speculated for years and just never comes to fruition? Also, if they did change the period to 24 months would everyone be moved to 24 months or just new candidates? (for instance my 18 months is May 2017…would I get extended to November?)

    How the F is AUD one of the biggest changes? Isn't BEC going from 3 hours to 4 hours and including legit sims starting in Q2? How are those not bigger changes than AUD?

    I actually read somewhere that AUD was changing significantly but I don't know how you can make more significant changes than what BEC is going through

    They are probably all getting tweaked to some extent. I think the biggest changes are BEC and REG.

    I can't even imagine the HOLY HELL BEC will be with legit SIMS… I just pray for a 75 on FAR on Friday… or else I will only have one more shot at passing it before the changes. I didn't even finish the last SIM in time on my re-sit leaving 2 hours to get them done, I don't know how I would manage 9 of them!

    and they ask me why I drink...

    REG-75- Never been so happy to see such a low grade

    @mckan a full force BEC exam is a scary thought lol. I remember studying for it and thinking many times “there is no way this is the easiest exam”. Granted I passed it the first try but I think the essay portion saved my score. The material is some of the hardest of the 4 exams. I can only imagine the ratio type sims they could throw your way.

    or variance SIMS, or economic GDP SIMS, or a good old IT SIM oh I could go on and on with the torturous ways they could inflict their pain… BEC was by far my hardest… even failing FAR (and even if I fail again) I will still say BEC was by far the worse of all of them- it was just all so random… hopefully I will pass FAR before losing my BEC credit because honestly I am not sure I could ever study for that one again.

    My AUD exam expires 7/31/17 so I am busting my behind to pass FAR on the first try so I dont have to worry about the a) changes b) waiting 10 weeks for my score if I fail the first time
