    Hey guys,
so Im almost one year into the public accounting world. Though, I did switch jobs midway but I was able to start a new one in public pretty quick. I still feel somewhat incompetent, however, I have gotten decent or expected feedbacks. Everyone I have worked with said Im doing well on the job etc. I mean my point is I definitely know more than when I first started and I feel more comfortable with some areas. But I can’t help but keep comparing myself to my co-workers that started at the same time or similar time. I feel like they are much smarter and do better. I know its terrible to even compare.

Guess I just got assigned a new assignment that I haven’t done before so Im a little overwhelmed at the moment. Would like to hear some first year experiences.

I've been a year in public accounting. I have positive feedback and I also feel like others are much better than me in many aspects; however, I also know my strengths and have now focused on what I am really good at and try to excel at that. With that said….it is surprising how much social skills impact your ability to succeed and feel comfortable in public accounting; hence, I really think you should focus on what you are good at. Listen to the positive feedback and improve on your “review points” and socialize! Ask questions, show interest and willingness to learn. You may not know it all but if you are teachable, people will train you and you will be doing better. Stay in one place long enough to be proficient and get enough exposure and repetition. The fact that you switch jobs in between DID slow down your learning process so don't be hard on yourself.
