I have been inquiring about how to tackle the SIMS of Reg and have about 5 days left to prepare. The biggest advise that I have been receiving is to use the research tab. I actually tried to do this in the Wiley test bank and could not see how it would help me. What I am doing wrong? the question was about filling out a tax form. if this is not somthing that the research tab will assist me on what sort of question should i practice in order to get the hang of using the research tab for sims. REG SUCKS!!!!

@gottagetmycpa, To be quite honest… When I was practicing SIMs in Wiley, I would skip over any SIM that asked me to fill out a tax form. My thought process was, those forms are usually pretty straight forward/semi-easy to fill out, meaning very minimal chance it would be tested on the actual CPA exam. I don't think you could research how to fill out those forms anyway?

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

I agree just look at the answers and learn from them. Butt do plenty of sims for REG.

I was absolutely convinced I would have to re-take REG this window until I received my score last week. I'm still in shock I passed because I left thinking I bombed the sims, which I probably did.

My anticipated approach to studying for my re-take was to hit all the SIMS hard in the Wiley book and the Wiley online test bank. I hardly touched them when I studied for the exam. Which in restrospect was a huge mistake. I don't think it is so much you have to fill them all out first and then look at the answers, but read the practice sims and then flip back and forth and see the answers to understand it. At least, that's how I was anticipating I would re-study for it. Perhaps my study style, we're all different in those regards.

Also, one other thing I did which probably helped me squeek by, was I made sure to fill as much as possible out for each SIM. I went on the theory that something was better than nothing and I'm sure that helped me pick up a very much needed point or two.

I used Yaeger, with the Wiley online test bank. I think the online test bank is great for preparing you for the sims, at least from the ones I encountered.

Also, make sure you nail the research question. That was the only type of sim I practiced for and since I knew how to navigate from the Wiley test bank it took me less than 5 minutes during the exam. Easy points if you've practiced it a few times.

I'm studying for AUD now and I'm deffinately paying a lot more attention to ALL the sims in Wiley. I don't want to cut it so close on my last two exams…

    Good luck!

    BEC - 77 (exp. 2/23/12)
    REG - 75
    AUD - 74
    FAR - 11/29/11
