Question for you folks with a past history with Yaeger. I started studying today with the 2011 Yaeger REG materials. I have a positive first impression. This will be my 3rd time to take REG (71,72), but really the first time I’m actually attempting solid study habits.

My only concern is that it appears Phil skips over a lot of the material and focuses on the parts he feels will be tested. That obviously a good thing if he’s right. What is everyone’s past experience and their assessment of whether or not you feel he misses out on any important areas for the exam? I like the concept of focusing on the important things – but I have to admit (being a little obsessive) I’m feel a little uneasy about the material he skips over in the Wiley book…

I used yaeger for reg. They don't go over everything because their goal is to get you a passing score, not a 99. If you have time read the text once over. The wiley book has so much information in it. I was so surprised to see my reg score of 88. It's great!

I am currently studying REG with Yaeger 2011 also. I am only halfway through and Phil has said atleast a dozen times only to study what he tells you to and do only the questions he tells you to. He is in the business of helping people pass the CPA, so I am going to do exactly what he says. Whats the point of paying for guidance if you are going to question it?

Thanks everyone or the input. Just needed a little reassurance from others that have used his methods before.

@zooyuka – “Whats the point of paying for guidance if you are going to question it?” – Paid for advice doesn't always equal good advice. If you don't believe that, just hire a consultant.

I purchased the Yaeger package after watching a few of his videos. I like the straight-forward manner in which he approaches the topics. He “dumbs it down” and makes it easy to understand. What I didn't know is how much of the Wiley stuff he skips over. As I've said, I'm fine with that, I just needed a couple of people to comment on whether or not they were satisfied with his targeting. Given the OCD nature of many accountants, including myself, I wouldn't find that the apprehension that comes along with skipping over a good deal of printed information a foreign thought…

I wanted to add to the comments above, I used Yaeger 2009 Cram during my exam in May 2010 and I ended up passing . I can assure you that most of the topics taken up by Phil was in the actual exam. I also would advise you to use Wiley software for simulation. It will help you a lot. I studied and read the Wiley book by myself and I ended up being frustrated because I have not use my time wisely instead of studying more MCQ's that Yaeger recommended. In my opinion, if you have Yaeger, there is no way that you could not pass Regulation!

    BEC 2/8/10 - 75 (studied hard & prayed less)
REG 5/15/10 - 88 (studied less but prayed hard)
AUDITING 8/9/10 - 79 (studied hard and prayed hard)
FAR 11/30/10 - 79 (studied hard and prayed hard) Thanks GOD! I'm DONE

@rollwithit – I know that paid advice doesn't always equate to good advice, but the Yeager CPA program is a proven system that has worked for people. My point is that if you researched the program and decided to spend your hard earned money on it you should trust it and use it as intended. The whole point of buying a CPA review course is to guide you through the material.

For all I care you can read the whole book and do all the questions while spinning on your head counter clockwise.

I asked this at Club 75 but might as well ask it here again, maybe I'll get more feedback

I'm using Yaeger 2011 REG home study and Phil mentions that the limit is $500 for casualty loss is the same as 2009. I'm also reading Jeff's notes on REG and he specifies that for 2010 the limit is going back to the original $100.

I'm sitting on 1.10.2011 for REG; which should I use? the $100 or $500?

    Thanks

I believe it's $100, but to be sure go to irs.gov. Search “1040 2010 changes” This will tell you exactly. I believe it is $100 in 2010. It's obvious on the exam if they are using $100 or $500 to get to the answer.
