Words of Encouragement

Let’s put out some words of encouragement for those of us about to take another (or your first) CPA Section!

I am scheduled to take REG this Saturday at 1pm and am seriously considering postponing it because I just don’t feel ready. I have emailed a couple of my friends (keeptrying and minimority) and they say I should not postpone because my scores aren’t bad but I am lacking confidence.

    My words of encouragement:

This test will not defeat you! You may not pass a section but you only truly fail when you quit! Do you really want to look back 6 months from now or 6 years from now and think…What if I wouldn’t have quit?

My favorite quote: Failure will never overcome me if my determination to succeed is strong enough!

@akb – you got this, stay focused! your words of encouragement are very much appreciated and your quote is great. I have recently taken a retake of AUD(failed in feb, retook 4/7) and am awaiting my scores at the beg. of May. In the meantime, I am preparing to take BEC on May 19. It's been a struggle. Not only did I walk out of AUD feeling as if it was harder and that I struggled more,i felt as if i was more prepared then the first time, so i am compltely confused at this point at how I did.

As far as BEC,i have had some good days but some bad days as well. I am doing my best to stay on course and will not give up ever. I am striving towards my may 19 test date and know that I can do this as long as I keep trying and put forth my best effort!

The this with AUD is that it seems totally random. When I took it I walked out know that it was really hard. What makes AUD difficult is the randomness. I also feel you can't memorize AUD, you have to actually understand it. I was an auditor for 3 years so I did understand it but it was still difficult.

BEC…ugh…I don't get that test. The first time I took it I had a horrible experience. The testing center had no A/C and it was July in TX…miserable! There was a guy in there that kept talking and then the fire alarm went off. I walked out feeling pretty confident but failed with a 73 or a 74. The second time I took it I knew I wasn't prepared. By the time I got to the writing I ‘knew' I had failed and just half way did the writing. I ended up passing with an 80. BEC blows my mind!

When I took REG in February, I walked out thinking that I had passed but I actually failed miserably! Now I have my game face on and have realized what I was struggling with was distinguishing between individual and corporate rules.

These tests like to play with your head! haha

@AKB – What type of materials did you use to conquer BEC with that 80? Right now I'm using Yaeger, Wiley Test bank and of course, Ninja notes.

I need to stay motivated as my exam is on 5/19, i just dont feel super ready yet, so im a little worried. What also is getting to me is that my AUD score will come in less than 2 weeks and either im going to be super motivated by deteriorated from failing again!!! ugh…..

advice, suggestions would be great 🙂

You've got this. I did not feel ready for REG at all when I took it, but I just said what the hell and went for it. There is so much material on these tests that its pretty much impossible to master everything. When I reach the end of my Becker books, its like man I don't remember what the first few chapters were even about.

For those of you taking the test for the first time, it's all about confidence. You have to walk in the testing center telling yourself that you're about to teach the exam a lesson and just boss it up. If you go in scared, you will start second guessing everything you do, start changing your answers all around, and have time management problems.

    BEC - 85
    REG - 77
    AUD - 73, 83
    FAR - 68, 89

thanks for the faith! I really hope you are right. I have horrible nervous issues when I take the exam but before I go in I listen to a couple of my ‘motivational' songs and say to myself that I am going to kick the test's a$$ haha it works about 50% of the time 🙂

    @journey

I used Becker and the Ninja notes. I have never used Yaeger so I am not sure what the difference is. Thoroughly read the Ninja notes every couple of days. I didn't take a ton of notes on this section like I did for the others. The biggest thing is to make sure you understand the Economic, Financial Management and the Cost Accounting sections. Memorizing is ok for the IT, and Ninja Notes really helped me on this section. I did weaker on Corporate Governance so I don't have any advice there. Also make sure your writing is good. Make sure you give yourself enough time because it can truly put you into a passing score. If you are a decent writer, these are fairly easy points. Even if you aren't sure what they are asking, try your best to b.s.

I will look for your post on AUD score release! Good Luck!
