Why did I feel like my REG exam was super easy?

I took REG exam last Saturday (8/28) in IL and left the building suspicious. I recognized more than half of multiple choice quesitons and I didn’t get extremely difficult SIMs either. This could mean both good and bad!

Does anyone have experiences of leaving the testing center feeling all confident and relieved and actually got passing scores? or non-passing scores?

Back in my college years there was this one time when I felt pretty good about my answers on this exam but turns out I totally misread the main question and didn’t do so well on it. Typical mistakes on exams!

I felt the same way. I thought the test seemed way too easy. In fact, since I felt like it was too easy I had convinced myself that I failed. I think I just knew the material really well. I had the same experience in college too. It is so hard with these exams to have any sort of idea about how you did.

I felt the same way walking out of the test….kinda makes me nervous but idk. Every other time I've walked out of the tests, I thought I failed for sure but ended up passing. This is the first time I didn't walk out feeling completely defeated. This is my last part and I studied ALOT for this test, so I hope I was just super prepared?! My testlets did get harder, so I hope that is a good sign…I guess I just have to wait and see!

Everyone talks about running up against the clock on this one and I finished w/ 45 minutes to spare. I really can't say whether I feel as if I passed or not. This is my last exam and I studied the least for this out of any of the others. By this point I had really fine tuned my studing to where I was pretty efficient, and also all parts of the exam overlap in a small way. Either way, the test didn't seem too hard, but I did guess on several questions. It is definitely a coin flip for me.

    Because you most likely passed.

Coming out of REG, I felt the section was easy. In fact, too easy, so I thought I failed because I got all easy testlets.

About the sims, I was expecting a lot worse than what I got; not that I'm complaining. Part of the exam is just luck of the draw, especially when it comes to the sims.

I thought reg was the hardest after aud

failed aud and got a 77 on reg….then again I only studied a total of three weeks for the two of them….so it's not surprising that I did poorly on them…but a 77 is a PASS

I just got out of REG. The MC wasn't too bad, but my sims were pretty unclear and one was on an obscure topic that had very little to do with taxes…

I felt the most unsure of the three tests I've taken.

    Potatogun,

I also feel that way about REG. I guessed on at least a few MC questions and the simulations were far from easy.

I am hoping it is enough to pass given my prior test experience and how I felt after those. I think I did well enough on the MC but the sims left me doubting. MC + WC should be just enough I hope!

Because you're super smart?! 🙂 Easy means pass (most likely).

I took earlier today (8/31). My last exam but I blew the load–sorry for dirty reference but I totally ruined this w$t dream. How could this happen?? Have to retake probably

I ran outta time. Meaning, I had less than 10 minutes for last Sim, and didn't even finish Written Communication. Further, on first Sim got screwed up by not studying a certain Sim that was nearly verbatim in Becker software. Guys, NEVER blow off preparing for the Sims. It will eat your lunch.

This exam was unfair with 3 hours, but then again so is life. If I took right now, would easily pass. Too bad it cost me $250 today, and the same in a few months. I can pray for rain, but right now there are no clouds in sight.

    @leebird,

Could I make a suggestion about SIMS? My CPA review professor recommmend to do Research and Communications portion before getting into other tabs. You most likely will gain more points on these. Let's pray together for the score releasing date!

    Potatogun, WhiteSoxFanCPA:

I am with you. Glad to see some high-scorers think that the exam yesterday was a bit challenging. I don't consider myself a dumb guy, but I felt that I was pretty well prepared using Becker for the exam. I also scored in the low 90's on my other two sections I took earlier in the year (used Wiley for preparation). Most of the multiple choice were okay (I know I guessed on a couple per testlet, had some consternation on a couple others). But the simulations were a bit alien to me (not in terms of the concepts, but the detail needed to execute them). I did not think they were easy at all, and felt that one of them really challenged knowledge of applying some complex structure. The other was tricky in the sense I have never encountered a scenario such as they gave, so I just used the best protocol that I could given what I learned with Becker. Needless to say, I improvised a bit in parts of the exam. Given the time constraint, it didn't allow for too much theorizing or analytical thinking. Needless to say, I hope I did well, but it was far from easy. I finished with about 3 seconds to spare. I don't know how other people felt their exam was a piece of cake and the sims/MC were just like Becker. More power to them and I wish them the very best, but I disagree. If it was, I would have gotten a 100 (and no, I don't just “memorize” the answers on Becker review). There must be different exams, or luck of the draw. I hope it works out for the best for everyone though, because all-in-all, this is a good certification and studying for these exams is actually not bad/pretty informative.

Yup, Joey J. I recognized the concepts in my sims but one was detailed like it would be in FAR for something you just read in passing in the book for REG.

My other one had a rule/concept I knew but I wasn't exactly sure of the format they wanted or if I even understood the instructions totally clear.

Oh well, we will see in 3 weeks.

    potatogun,

When are you taking BEC? My test is set for 10/26 so I have a couple weeks off right now.
