I studied a lot more and understood a lot more the second time I took REG and improved by a mere 3 points.

First time I was weak all around on the MCQ, except for ethics which was a comparable.

Comparable on sims. Failed with a 68.

The second time I was comparable on 3, stronger on 3 for MCQ, so obviously I improved a lot.

But I was weaker on sims this time.

All that improvement but only 3 points better? what gives man.

I'm really getting pizzed off now.

I'm exhausted, overwhelmed, ineffective at work, I'm feeling like everything I am studying is going in one ear and out the other, I'm behind…..ARGGGHHH.

It's like the time I almost drown in Hawaii…..one wave after another. I'm not sure if I should push 5/29 back or not.

REG seems like it is twice the information that AUD and BEC was and it all seems like hypertecnhicalities. Hopefully, when I get to the exam it will be easier than what I have been studying and not at the level of being infinitely picky in the hypertechnicalities.

^ the exam is extremely picky with the hyper technicalities especially the sims.

Thats why I have failed twice now..

That's why I found REG so hard. The material itself isn't so bad; it's the fact that they ask A LOT of extremely detailed questions that aren't really all that important.

Now you guys got me really concerned. I am still studying R6 and hopefully can wrap R7 and R8 next week. If you guys have Becker, can you tell me what you are scoring in typical MCQs from Becker?

It's hard, but not impossible. You can do it. You just have to really work at it and give it your very best shot on exam day.

@CPA-Convertible: Don't worry about it, you have passed other parts on the first try (especially FAR), you'll be fine. I'm not saying REG is easy nor is it NOT tricky…but it's not impossible. I took REG three times before I passed, but this was due to me not studying properly and skipping chapters.

However, last time I took it…I found it to be fairly straightforward. I read Becker chapters twice and did all the MCQs/SIMS at least 3-4 times. I also read ancillary material (used 2011 version) couple times and did all the tax MCQs/SIMs from Wiley. Wiley was very valuable in helping pass. By the end of my reviewing process, I was scoring above 90% on Becker progress test and above 80% on Wiley. I didn't do all the Becker final exams, rather just did first couple testlets and was getting about 75% per testlet. I passed with a wide margin (though I think I got lucky on the exam day…both MCQs and SIMs felt pretty straightforward).

Just keep reading the chapters and working on those MCQs. Btw, I'm sure you already know this, but use the research tab on SIMS you aren't sure of!

I had trouble studying for REG…it was my last exam, and I find tax to be just awfully boring. I kinda skated on some of the topics for this exam…I don't regret it because I passed, but looking back I probably could have done better.

to all those that have passed REG, I just have this to say

I can't believe that anyone who has passed FAR is nervous about REG! FAR is a flipping MONSTER compared to REG!

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

@goodluck- You can thank the tax experts for kicking butt on these exams. REG used to have a higher than 50% pass rate, so the AICPA didn't like that. So, they made it extra detailed in order to lower it to 45%.

REG might be easy for tax preparers like cpaman said. The MCQ for reg are very reasonable. It's the damn simulations that I hate. The first time I put in random numbers and ended up somehow getting a comparable. This time I did my best at calculating and got a weaker.

The progress report is trash… I have the same problem with FAR.

My report keeps improving dramatically yet somehow my score doesn't.

seriously, reg sims are killing me. the last time i took reg i kicked the multiple choice section's butt….but apparently not so much on the sims cause i went down a point from the first time i took it. the first time i took it i had no idea what was going on because i had only gotten through half the materials. i was okay with failing the second time, but getting a lower score than i did the first time was like a slap in the face. i have my third try this monday and am gonna make this test my b!tchhhhh! or cry like a baby….pretty much a toss up.

    REG (08/2011) - 73 (2/2012) - 72
    AUD (08/2011) - 73 (1/2012) - 86
    FAR (11/2011) - 79
    BEC (11/2011) - 79

@goodluck2- It's all luck. The second time I took REG, I got the most ridiculous Sims. There was NO way I could've prepared for them. But the third time I took it, they gave me easy ones on easy topics and that's how I ended up passing. You may get lucky next time. Each exam is different.
