goodluck2everyoneMemberI studied a lot more and understood a lot more the second time I took REG and improved by a mere 3 points.
First time I was weak all around on the MCQ, except for ethics which was a comparable.
Comparable on sims. Failed with a 68.
The second time I was comparable on 3, stronger on 3 for MCQ, so obviously I improved a lot.
But I was weaker on sims this time.
All that improvement but only 3 points better? what gives man.

AnonymousInactiveI'm sorry you didn't pass:( REG is hard, keep at it.
It took me three tries to pass REG. Granted, I didn't study hard the first two times, however, I supplemented Wiley testbank last time and it was very very VERY beneficial. Read the Becker text twice, do all the MCQs/SIMS 3-4 times and do MCQs from Wiley testbank, you'll be more than prepared. Make sure you are really understanding concepts, this way, you'll be able to apply them…even on SIMS. On SIMS, if you encounter something you haven't seen, use the research tab, it could help you!
Good Luck, you're half way there! How's FAR going?

AnonymousInactiveI had to take REG 7, yes 7 times, to pass. The thing that got me over the hump was the NINJA audio. I listened to it until I could recite it along with Jeff. I went up 15 points! Thank God for Jeff Elliott!!

PistolPeteMemberI used NINJA audio this time around too and my score went up 9 points! It's a great way to reinforce the concepts, and I would sort of quiz myself by trying to explain the material along with Jeff.
I was frustrated with my REG scores too. Studying for a third time I was surprised by how much I didn't know….even when I thought I had the concepts nailed down. I also think taking the exam more than once should give you a comfort level with the content and how they are testing it. Focus on that, reevaluate and hit REG again.

HerbieherbParticipantDon't follow the performance report. Each exam is different. Restudy like its your first time or as if you failed with a 40, not trying to chase 4 points based off of a vague report.

FAR is an absolute monster. I've fallen behind because of family problems, so I only have about 20~ days to study for it so I'm putting in about 6-8 hours a day. I'm hating life right now and I hope it pays off in the end.
Even though I already have the ninja notes, I'll try the audio just in case. Any deals going on?

AnonymousInactiveWhat helped me a lot with FAR ninja notes was to print them out, and while doing MC or reviewing your materials was to add any extra information that the ninja notes didn't have.

AnonymousInactive@goodluck- Look at it this way, you're half way there. You passed two sections, you can pass another two! I think now you can see why Minimorty was being as hard as he was.
You can do it. Stick to it and you'll be glad you did. Best of luck!

goodluck2everyoneMemberthanks for the encouragement cpaman.
this exam process has been the most tedious, boring, frustrating thing I've ever done in my life. It better be worth it.

Mrs 300ParticipantCPAMan, how did you go from a 61 to an 89 on FAR??? What did you do differently between those two scores? I don't need a 19 point increase, just 10. π Any advice or tips would be appreciated! Although, I already feel better prepared 11 days before the exam than I did 1 day before the exam last time.

AnonymousInactiveActually, it was a 16 point increase because I got a 73 before that 61. After I got a 73, I was like, βOh wow, only 2 more points to go. Only a little more studying and I should be good!β So, I only studied just a few extra hours and thought I could pull off a 75. Nope, got a COMPLETELY different exam the next time around and I was in shock. So, bam! 61!!
I took a break for a few months to think things through and figure out if Accounting was the right direction for me. After my break, I came to the conclusion that I definitely wanted to be a CPA. So, I decided to study from scratch and aim for a 99 this time, not a 75. I rewatched all my Yaeger lectures and took notes. I started studying again as if I was taking the test for the first time. I would study 3 hours a day on weekdays and 4 hours a day on weekends. Did nothing but watch lectures, take intense notes, review lecture and do practice questions. When I found myself getting a lot of practice questions wrong on a particular topics, I would go over my notes again and teach myself the material again from scratch. When I found certain topics starting to slip away from my brain, I went back again and started going over my notes and reviewing. It was a painful process, but it obviously worked. Keep in mind that after all that studying, I still found my FAR exam to be brutal. I was in agony as I was taking the test and when I walked out of Prometric, I wanted to jump out the window. But since I scored an 89, I obviously did better than I thought and I know it was because I worked A LOT harder this time around.
I may consider putting back my exam dates in my signature so people know exactly how long I was taking this exam. I originally had them there, but since I ended up taking this exam so many times (11 times total), my signature was getting too big, lol. But for purpose of giving some encouragement to others, I may add them back.

Mrs 300ParticipantThank you so much for taking the time to tell me your strategy. Someone else gave me the advice that I need to stop going after a 75 – I need to go after a 99. I am really trying to have that mentality. I am trying to know everything COLD and I feel much better.
I'm not surprised that you wanted to jump out the window. After the first 10 questions on FAR, I looked left, then right, then craned my head back around because I was seriously doubting that I was taking the right test! I don't think that I have ever felt like more of an idiot after 4 hours of taking the FAR exam! Well, Audit was pretty brutal for me. I felt pretty dumb after that one too. π
Congrats on your passing scores. I hope to join that club soon.

nbad311MemberI took REG first in 2009 and put in a strong 1.5 months of studying and got a 65.
Started studying again for it in Jan. 2012 and took it 4/17, and only got a 70. Seriously, wtf. I was studying about 22-25 hours a week the last two months. And while I know I had a few weak areas, I felt like my exam didn't really test them. I don't even know where to start studying again. [bad attitude alert] I felt like there is a good chance I can put in more hours, for another 2 months, and easily get another 70.
REG - 65, 70, 80!
