I am planning on taking my last exam REG on January 7th, my NTS expires Jan 8th. The problem that I am having is that I only have 67 hours in so far and just 9 more days of study time left. I have been sick the last couple of days and with christmas I haven’t gotten near the amount of hours in that I should & I know New Year’s will affect studying since I have family coming in. I am using Becker and am half way through ch. 6 and I haven’t done any review so far and I am not good with taxes. So my question is should I take the exam as scheduled on the 7th or cancel it and pay the NTS again and take it at the end of Feb?

    BEC 7/20/10 88 (90 hours)
    AUD 8/27/10 73 (65 hours), retake 11/22/10 81 (75 hours)
    FAR 10/28/10 80 (157 hours)
    REG 1/7/10 extended to 1/17/10 78 (130 hours) I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a predicament. I guess it would depend on if you want to finish in Q1 and don't mind paying for a new NTS. You can sit for your exam and hope for the best since you are going to lose it anyway. Since it is your last part will any of your credits fall off if you wait until April? It really depends on your time frame. With the new release process if you wait until April to retake REG, assuming you don't pass your January test, you will have to wait until June to get your results and it will delay your certification that much longer.

But since it is your last part, is the $300 it would take to get a new NTS worth the 3-4 month savings?

A lot to think about buddy.

This is a lot to think about. I know for me, I'm working hard to get a shot at my final two parts in this first window. June just seems soooo long away to wait for my scores. I may still have to wait until June if I fail a part, but at least I have a shot. So if I were you, I would just pay for a new NTS (since you may have to anyway if you feel like you won't pass this one in 9 days) and take it in February.

    FAR - 92 --- AUD - 87 --- REG - 80 --- BEC - 87

It is a lot to think about, but if it only that your NTS is expiring, what harm is it in taking the exam in January. If you fail, you have to repay for a new NTS, which is exactly what you would be doing if you didn't take the exam and rescheduled. I ran into a similar situation with FAR in 2009. I still went ahead and took the exam (failed) but then I knew a little bit of what to expect.

I think it also has to do with if you want to be done in Q1, or if you could wait until the end of Q2. Either way, I wish you the best of luck!

Study as much as you can and take the exam since your NTS is already expiring and you'd have to pay for a new one anyway.

Thanks everyone, I think I am going to go ahead and take it on the 7th. I have 87 hours in so far now & hope to put another 20 in before the exam, hopefully that is enough. Like most of you suggested there is no point in paying for it again and not trying it. Who knows I may get lucky and pass this time, wouldn't that be awesome.

I have changed my mind, I will be paying for the exam again and rescheduling my test to the end of Feb. This past week has not been a good one w/ a couple of panic attacks and a trip to the ER, I obviously haven't gotten in the extra 20 hours. I am hoping this will relieve some of my stress and I will stop having panic attacks, had them a few years back and they all of a studden started up again. This is my last exam and I am not sure why they are coming back now when I already have 3 passes under my belt. Has anyone else dealt w/ panic attacks? The doctor has given me alpazolam?, but I really want to overcome these w/out medicine. I am a believer and I know that is how I overcame them years ago, I just need to do the same again. Sorry for the rant.
