Since I am going to retake REG, what other material you guys suggest me to use? I have used Becker and end results not good. Test will be tackled by end of April, total six week.

I like Becker but man the number of posts I see where people say they failed with it…..especially those that say they saw things on the exam that they didn't see in the materials.

Definitely supplement with the Wiley test bank. Take notes on any topics covered in Wiley that wan't covered in Becker.

For my 4th and passing attempt at REG, I used Gleim MCQ testbank AND the simulations software which is *exactly* like the actual exam. For me, after 3 failed attempts, it was pivotal to drill questions from another perspective even though Gleim has these wacky “publisher adapted” questions that are more difficult than the actual exam.

I knew that the simulations were killing me on my failed 3 attempts so having the simulation software was important for me to get comfortable with it and even learning how to maneuver around the tax code. I've had research questions that are not so clear cut and easy to find so having Gleim's software to practice on was great.

I used Yaeger for REG (Yaeger uses Wiley test bank and textbook).

I bought Yaeger because it’s cheaper

I followed Dr. Yaeger’s instruction (only read/did the section he selected) because I have no time to study for this section (my job is very busy in the 1st quarter and I have a 4.5 year-old)

Although my score is not perfect, it works for me !! : P

Hope this give you some idea!

Ps. I did the assigned question 2-3 times. (2nd and 3rd time only did question I did wrong in the first/2nd time) to make sure I really understand the concept.

    FAR 87 (8/19/11)
    AUD 83 (11/19/11)
    Reg 82 (2/25/12)
    BEC 78 (5/30/12)
    I'm done with studying!!!!!!

I used Becker , and even though I saw two or three questions, I was not comfortable with or did not remember seeing in the book, Becker covered 99% of the test. If you know 99% of the questions , do not you think you will pass?

I vote Yeager, its relatively cheap, and i thought it was effective. It comes with the wiley book, which I think is great.

    BEC. 81
    AUD. 72, 78
    REG. 87
    FAR 76

After 6 long months, I AM A CPA! Good luck to all!

I'm sorry you didn't pass:(, but you'll get it done the next time around.

I finally passed REG on my 3rd try. This time, I really studied…Here's what I did (used Becker/Wiley testbank):

    -Read the book x3,

-Did all the MCQs/SIMS in passmaster/final review, at least x3-4,

-Did bunch of progress test after every chapter, plus weeks leading up to exam,

-Took lot of notes, made note cards…even though I bought Becker notecards, writing my notes was much better,

-Did ALL tax MCQs/SIMS in Wiley,

-Bought Roger Cram, but wasn't able to watch all the video. However, I did see majority of the tax videos and some things clicked (like depreciation). However, MCQs in cram notebook were same/similar to Becker/Wiley, so wasn't much useful in that aspect,

-Read the ethics/legal responsibilities part again in the parking lot, right before the exam,

-Did about 48MCQs from the Becker Final exam…didn't have time to do all of them,

-Left 1:30 for the SIMS, and extensively used the research tab.

I'm not an expert, but hope that helps!! You can do it the next time around:!)

    Good Luck!!

I don't want to say Becker is weak for REG, but clearly it wasn't working for me. With that said, the Wiley Online Test Bank is an excellent tool (boosted my score by 19 points on the third attempt) that really tests your understanding of the concepts provided you give it an honest and thorough run. My approach was as follows: I ran through each section once initially, bookmarking those questions that gave me pause or that left me staring at the screen. Once I had completed each section once, I focused on the bookmarked questions for each section, taking off the bookmark only after I had convinced myself that I understood the reason for the correct answer (this is where honesty, and note taking, is key). Then I revisited the initial sections and completed them in full again in hopes of reducing the number of questions I bookmarked. Repetition is key and is directly related to one's ability to retain the information. But don't waste time spinning your wheels on those answers that came to you naturally. Don't be afraid of giving yourself credit as you study, as this builds much-needed confidence.

As for the simulation tasks, I just made sure that I could navigate through them with ease. Understanding how the research function works is critical. I am positive that had I screwed up the research task on the actual exam, I would have failed. It is quite possibly what put me over the top. Simply put, you must master it.

I confess that I did rely on Becker for the ancillary material covering Ethics and Professional Responsibilities and the Federal Tax Process. These two topics seemed to be Wiley's only weakness, but reading the information trumps doing questions in my opinion. As many have suggested, I have no idea why these two sections are labeled as ancillary. And that is all I will say on that as it relates to REG.

    Good luck!

I used becker and wiley textbook…failed with a 72. Am thinking about getting the wiley online testbank, and people seem to recommend it? Is it much different from the textbook?
