InactiveNot looking for illegal disclosure here, but what makes these SIMS so much harder than say FAR and AUD?
I test Wednesday and all the hype has mostly been on the horrendous SIMS…

MemberMy first REG attempt I crushed the MCQ's and my score report indicated that I was stronger in all categories. However, I was weaker in one area: SIMS. Therefore, I got a 74. I retested and once again crushed the MCQ's but don't feel too confident on the SIMS, again. I find out today if I passed the mark.
REG SIMS suck because there's really no telling what they are going to throw at you and whether or not you will have any clue as to how to prepare for them. I truly feel that the REG SIMS are simply luck of the draw.

ParticipantI'm really not sure. I've only got AUD to compare it to but for me last REG test I had SIMS on topics that were barely covered by CPAExcel. However, the time before that even though I failed REG my sims were comparable to students that made a 76-80. Although on that one I did have one that was left field, but I'm betting it was a pre-test sims.
FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
BEC- 75
REG- 60,60,75
AUD- 74,74,83CPAExcel used for BEC, AUD, REG
Exam Matrix used for FAR plus NINJA Blitz, cpareviewforfree and a little CPAExcelFebruary 24, 2014 at 4:12 pm #522059Not a Quitter

MemberI agree with – I'm, Ron Burgundy?
REG SIM's are so unpredictable that you really can't tell what will come up in them. Meaning you can get a SIM on a topic that is barely covered in your review course.. That is what happened to me this time π
I guess we will see tomorrow if i have finally managed to pass this horrible section… I am already mentally preparing myself if i have to retake REG again π π Uggghhhhhh…

MemberI am sure we will.
My only advice for REG is – learn everything and learn it well.
Focus more on the concepts and rules. Know them live them love them!
Don't get all fixed on knowing the thresholds of everything – Main things would be Sc 179 and a few things in Individual tax.
Practice MQC's like crazy and again know the concept the question is testing you on. You will have a very good chance of passing π
Also use the IRC publication website to do a lot of research on topics you will are not covered in depth by the reviewer. Good Luck!

So am I …….its nice to see someone express their true emotions on this site π
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

MemberYou don't have to know the actual tax brackets for REG do you? I haven't taken yet, but would assume they would be provided for the different increments and filing statuses.
