What helped you significantly boost your score for REG or any other exam?

I struggle with REG for some time already. My scores were 52 and 62. The second time my weakest area was the tax law and this is what I am studying right now. However, this time around I need a good plan to review material that I knew not so bad before. I guess my question is what is the most EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT way for REG review. I am desperate to get these additional 13 points. I used NIU CPA review course, not Becker like most of you guys. My plan for review is to use NINJA notes, Becker flash cards and Wiley test bank (I have Gleim too) to bring all the material together in my head…. Do you think, it is a right way to boost the score or do you have a better way to do it. Please share your story… What finally helped you to defeat this damn REG beast and not to get lost in the endless see of REG material?

I gained 11 points ditching Roger and buying Yaeger cram and new Wiley book. My boyfriend did the same for Reg and he also gained 11 points. Watch videos, take notes, read Wiley, read Wiley again, more notes, more reading, THEN do the questions, first in book then test bank.

    Good luck!

I got 60 from first try, and 80 from second try.

Probably I got low score because I studied too long (4 months). For the second time, I concentrated and kept on doing Becker MCQ over and over again for a month, and finally got 20 more points. Important thing is to make sure you understand the concepts in the MCQs. In my case, I wrote down wrong answers in my note – that way, I won't forget next time.

    Currently:
    CPA - Class of 2013
    ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014

    In Progress:
ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)

Kay, how many questions you did a day or a week? Did you study full time or worked and studied?

Just went from 65 to 84.

Preface: Failed all four in a row while not working. Went through all the videos and material and did *some* multiple choice. Did a lot of highlighting (LOL doesn't help anything) and thought I was studying. Nope.

AUD was my first pass. Typed up the entire Roger book in my own words into Word docs and made my own notes off his. Did ALL of the Wiley homework book questions and put those answers into my notes if it wasn't there already. Did ALL of the Wiley Testbank and put them into my notes as well. Did all of the 2009-2013 recently released questions and put into my notes. Then I would just do Testbank questions over and over and while finding answers if I needed to, it would help me study because I was reading my notes over and over and remembering where this or that came from (like Review VS Compilation). Went from 70 to 84.

Did the same thing for REG but my friend gave me Becker flashcards which I put into my notes. I also found other flashcards and notes online just googling random stuff. Working FT now. Stopped going out on the weekends and basically altogether. Would go out maybe once every other week. MAYBE.

Read every question and answer. Stop and think a second before answering.

    AUD: 84
    REG: 84
    BEC: 79
    FAR: 83

I knew REG was going to be hard for me. I had the wiley books and ninja notes and got an 81 on my first try.

Before I studied for the exam, I made myself a challenge to try to get in 150 hours before my date came up. I installed Pomodroido on my smart phone and started logging the time. I would get up before work at 5am and study. I got pretty into it and started analyzing where I could squeeze in the 20 minute blocks. Then I was log the time walking and taking the subway to work listening to the audio notes.

REG makes you constantly stumble and practice until you get the area right. Another thing I realized was that once I started doing the SIMs, I would retain the material easier because it helped me visualize the forms as I was working through more simple MCQ.

For REG particularly I found crucial to be able to calculate various tax credits, etc.

Note, calculate, NOT purely memorize phaseouts, amounts. Since Becker did not show some of the calculations or glossed over them, I went topic by topic and searched online for YouTube videos or text examples and copied them into respective pages next to Becker materials. At the end, I found reg test doable.

Additionally, don't underestimate business law topics, specifically definitions. One must know them.

I got an 87 on reg. that was my first try!

I re-worked every MCQ in becker at least 3-4 times. Then I did the CPAreview for free, and then I did a few Wiley mobile Test MCQs.

The best thing to do is write what you got wrong on note cards, and just review the note cards over and over again. I think it is best to do practice exams in sets of 30, and do them all day or whenever time permits. Just continually TEST YOUR knowledge of the material over and over again. Practice test, write what you got wrong on Flash cards, then more practice tests, and them more flash cards.

Just do that over and over until you can not do it anymore! I studied 10 hours everyday for a week and a half! before my reg exam, and I am VERY happy with my result!

    FAR 78
    REG 87
    BEC 78
    AUD 78
Passed all exams on first try! Good luck to everyone!

@wannabeCPA123 congratulations on your REG score. Were Sims a part of your study by an chance? Or is non-stop multiple choice the key to success? I'm getting ready to take REG on the 11th and normally have a hard time with Sims. I think non-stop multiple choice works best but i'm going to have to do it on WIley. I don't want to get things wrong since my Becker is for 2012.

    BEC 4/3/13 84
    AUD 5/7/13 69, Retake 11/9/13 82
    FAR 8/13/13 78
    REG 10/11/13 85

    Ethics CA (78%, 90%)
