What else to study…?

So I took a whole week off to study. Thankfully I work for a small firm, and “busy” season doesn’t really start until.. basically now or next week. So far I have put a good 200 hours into REG using Becker. I just took a 100 question quiz covering all topics (including supplemental questions) and got a 90%. I took a similar quiz two days ago and got a 86%, Now, I did take the first practice exam a few days ago and only scored a 62, 62, 70, and roughly a 75 on the 3 MC testlets and Sims, respectively. But I am not too worried about that. I remember scoring in the 50s for my Becker FAR exam simulated test, and I still got a 81 on the actual.

So besides the 2nd practice exam, and reviewing the first practice exam.. I am running out of stuff to study. I obviously plan on doing some more Sims, and considered reading the ancillary material again in Becker.

I was thinking about running to Barnes and Nobel, and seeing if they had anything for relatively cheap. Any recommendations? Or would that just be a waste of time and money and should I stick to just redoing Becker MC over and over? I don’t take the test until Monday.

Thanks! And any tips from anyone who very recently took REG would be very much appreciated.

    AUD: 90

    @Rafferty,

I am in the exact same boat as you (even taking it same day). I plan on taking the first Becker final review this afternoon and spend Thursday reviewing chapters 1&2 Friday 3&4 Saturday 5&6 and Sunday 7&8. Hopefully crank out as many MCQ's as I can. I plan on taking a ton of notes on the ancillary materials…I feel that is what could make or break this exam for me.

It's good to see how some of the scores translate from the Becker Final Exams to the actual exam itself. I have a feeling I would get caught up in seeing something below a 75!

Good luck to you on your exam!

Yeah.. Becker's test exam is definitely harder than the real exam. I freaked when I first saw my 55 and found out that it's very common to earn an additional 10-20 points on the real exam. So if you see a “low score” don't panic. Just use what you missed to study. I got roughly a 72 on the second FAR practice exam, and that was only one or two days before the real exam. I think I would have done better too on the real exam but I had sever food poisoning during the exam.

I would definitely recommend the supplemental questions. I have the 2011 version of Becker, and they sent an update highly recommending that I go read the R4 ancillary material(its like 45 pages, don't worry this will not apply to you if you have 2012, which is what I believe you have). From what I have read so far, I already know it. Doing all of the MC, both homework and supplemental, seems to be preparing me well.

    Good luck to you too!

I've never used this, but Gleim does a free trial. You could download that and get some extra practice with questions!

    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60

I haven't used Becker at all but I did just take REG on 1/9/12.

From what I hear, Becker labels certain topics as ancillary material. I believe that the ancillary material is equivalent to what I would call the minor topics in my studies.

In my experience, these topics were heavily tested. So if you already have the major concepts down, I would definitely advise you to took a look back at those ancillary topics.

    B - 79 PASSED (1/4 there!)
    A - 77 PASSED (1/2 there!)
    F - 79 PASSED (3/4 there!)
    R - 83 PASSED (DONE!!!!!!)

I would recommend supplementing the Becker materials with additional multiple choice questions close to your test date. I am a huge fan of Becker but it is nice to get some fresh questions. I tend to memorize the MC after doing them so many times so i picked up the hard copy Wiley 2012 problems and solutions book on amazon for around $60. I actually ended up cutting the book into sections so I could lend it out to some friends I know taking different exams. Good luck.

    AUDIT 7/29/11 - 87

If you haven't done the Becker Supplemental questions do those as they're actually a bit harder and prepare you slightly better than the regular questions do.

    REG (7/7/11) 75
    FAR (7/28/11) 76
    BEC (8/27/11) 81
    AUD (10/15/11, 1/20/12) 63, 91

    DONE!!!

Thanks for the hints.. From reading 90% of the ancillary material, I felt like it was covered anyway in the multiple choice questions.
