WHAT?!?!?! Another REG Exam Crash - Page 2

    If you’ll recall I took my REG exam on 7/19 and it crashed right before the simulations loaded. Thankfully, my NTS was reinstated and I was scheduled to take REG again this morning. Unfortunately for me it was the same story different day. My exam crashed again right before the simulations loaded. I had my fingers crossed and everything!! It’s that 15 second delay between when you continue to testlet four and when testlet four actually loads. An error message comes up to the effect of connection error with all sorts of path information.

    I’m pretty sure this is what it feels like to go crazy!!

    I spent an hour and forty five minutes on hold with prometrics just so they could give me the same lame bs as last time. “Blah, blah, blah, I’m sorry, blah, blah, blah, I completely understand, blah, blah, blah we’ll get back to you within 24-48 hours”. To say this company’s lacking in customer service is a serious understatement. I’m pretty sure I sat on hold while all the customer service people at prometrics went out to lunch.

    It’s my own fault, though, I knew I shouldn’t have booked the retake at the same location. I just knew it!

    BEC: 75 11/8/10
    AUD: 89 2/22/11
    FAR: 78 5/17/11
    REG: 72, 83 10/17/11
    DONE!!!!

    @whenindoubt

    That's unbelievable!! I can't even imagine what you're going thru right now. I hope you can find a new test center that's not too long a drive so you never have to go back to that one.

    @yankee

    Before I took REG, I read several posts complaining about the length of time it took to load testlets and to move from one SIM to another; some even went so far as to say that that was the reason they were unable to finish the exam. I thought that either they were exaggerating or it was an isolated issue because I hadn't had any problems like this with FAR or AUD. It was different when I took REG, though. Although I didn't have the degree of difficulty that some other people did, there was a noticeable lag when switching SIMS. I read somewhere (can't remember where, though) that this was an issue with the new REG exam that the AICPA was aware of and would be correcting. From whenindoubt's experience, though, it doesn't sound like it was fixed.

    kb24,

    Thanks for the info. I hadn't read those posts last window. That is good to know. I guess I will be on the lookout. On another note, sorry to hear about your personal/family issues. I hope that everything works out ok. I can totally relate to that. I feel like my family issues seem to be coming to a head over the summer, and for me, it is really taking me out of study mode. I am sure it is why I am having difficulty with the material. However, the review seems to be going much better with the Wiley book and Yaeger, I am fairly certain I will push back my exam about 4 days.

    I hope that everything calms down by your house and that you will be able to jump right back into the interview process. Keep us posted. BTW any news on your daughter's exams?

    ok..time for me to put my money where my mouth is…on to REG.

    Have a great day.

    Thanks for all your support guys. I just got an email from a NASBA rep who said she reviewed my file, and all of my answers from all of my testlets were sent to the AICPA!!

    I really wish the luck was the same for you, Whenindoubt. I'm gonna keep rooting for you, I wish something could be done!!!

    Just heard from Prometrics…my section id was reinstated. They figured out what was wrong with the other site too. This site was moved from the location I took my previous exams at. Something happened to the hardware during the move and supposedly it has been fixed.

    I scheduled my exam for this Monday at a different site. I don't care what they say I'm not going back to the SRQ site.

    Thanks for everyones support….I'm so ready to put this behind me!!

    @Erincritchfield….so glad everything worked out ok!!

    Has this set you back from studying from your next section?

    Whenindoubt, I really feel for you! You should definitely call NASB and let them know about that center.

    I got the “white screen of death” while exiting REG. All the Prometrics staffer could tell me was “There's a big error message next to your name. The exam wasn't completed. I've never seen this before.” They tried to reboot my computer, but no dice. I'm normally a mild-mannered person, but I spent the next few minutes slamming locker doors and using bad language in the recepton room (There was no one else there.) Then I went back into the interior check-in room, apologized to the staff (who were pretty much hiding in there and probably about to call security) and calmly asked what I should do next. They gave me a business card with the NASB number. Of course it was Saturday so I had to just compartmentalize and get on with life until I could call during business hours on Monday. Fortunately my exam had been recorded. The NASB person I talked with was just super; I guess they are used to dealing with totally crazed exam takers.

    This is probably no consolation whatsoever, Whenindoubt, but you're going to be beast on the MCQs because you've probably seen every question they can throw at you. It was a high price to pay, but you got two live practice MCQ tests under your belt; who else can say that?

    When you finally do get to take the entire test, at the end of the test there is a survey asking what you thought about prometric, was the location convenient, was the computer equipment functional, did the process meet your expectations, etc. Give them HELL!!

    @yankee

    Thanks for asking. Her exam score is one of the recent issues. She studied SO, SO hard but didn't do as well as she'd hoped. It's far different than the CPA exam in that almost all US students pass. How well you do above that is a big factor in residencies. What's weird to me 188 is passing but just a couple of points difference in your score above that can mean lousy or great. I think she'll be OK, but it was a very emotional week. That's just on top of everything else that's been going on. Oh well, life comes in cycles – I just hope we start on the up slope soon. I'm sure you feel the same way.

    It sounds like REG is coming together for you so you'll probably be pretty solid with an extra few days. I'm sure that you'll still have plenty of time for AUD especially since you reviewed the material so recently.

    Good luck!!

    Another kid story – Do you remember the children's book “The Hungry Caterpillar”. My daughter called it “calerpitar” until she was 4. The bad thing was that my husband and I started saying it as well. To this day, 20 years later, I still have to think before I say the word to make sure I'm not messing it up. She did the same thing to me with “butterfly” – I still sometimes call one a “flutterby”.

    Now I'm done goofing off and back to job applications.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
