Took REG yesterday (used Yaeger CPA to prepare)

I passed FAR in the last testing period just using the Wiley book and software, but I think I probably studied longer and in a less focused way than I could have. Overall, I probably spent less time studying for REG, but I think by using Yaeger my efforts were much more focused. I was a little apprehensive about following Phil’s advice (Phil is the instructor) to only do the question he suggests and read what he says to read. I did follow his advice mostly, except for taking a few practice tests with the Wiley software. However, after my test yesterday, I was so glad I listened to Phil. There were maybe a few questions that weren’t covered by the Yaeger home study. And all the simulations were at least something I was familiar with. One sim was something just touched on, but I was able to make a good guess on how to approach it. After my FAR exam, I was practically in tears, this time with REG I could barely keep from smiling. I guess I’ll find out for sure how I did on or around Dec. 7, but I would definitely recommend Yaeger to anyone considering it.

I noticed a lot of people took REG in the past few days, good luck to all of you!

Have you heard anything about the Yaeger Auditing course? I'm planning on tackling AUD next (as long as I get good news for REG) and I read mixed reviews on the Auditing instructor/videos. I could try with just Wiley, but it's so labor intensive. I'd like to use Yaeger if the AUD course is as good as the REG one.

I just got my passing grade for Audit using Yaeger. During the first few modules of watching Gary Bulmash, i found myself really mad at the way he teaches and found watching him to be a waste of time. but my suggestion is, highlight anything he touches on in the book and after the video, rewrite or type out those notes and move on. Aside from that, he actually has very good advice on taking the exam, specifically, to read the question carefully and look for keywords. Anyway good luck!

I just read your first post in this thread. I just started studying for REG and I was also apprehensive about this method. However, based on your comments I guess I will follow the advice. Thanks for your input.

I bought Yaeger CRAM a couple of weeks ago thinking that I would have enough time to prepare to take the exam this window, but unfortunately I haven't been able to focus and use my study time wisely, so I rescheduled 🙁 Do you think that the lectures with the CRAM video are enough to pass, or should I have gotten the full Home Study course?

Thanks for responding. What you did with AUD is basically what I did with REG. I watched all the videos and as Phil read from or talked about things in the book, I underlined it. Then last week I took notes on it all. I thought my hand was going to fall off from writing so much, but I think it really solidified some of the concepts in my mind! I think I may give the AUD Yaeger homestudy a try. Sounds worth it.

Yvonne, the homestudy courses are $545 per section and there is a discount if you buy all the parts at once. You also get better guarantees if you buy all 4. I would definitely recommend, however, searching around for a discount/promo code. I found one on a cpa site that gave me about $100 off. A little off-topic, but I'd actually recommend searching for promo codes for any online shopping. You can find codes for lots of websites that'll give you pretty good discounts. Just be careful which sites you go to, I don't trust the ones that you have to click a link to get the code. Most legit sites just have the promo code listed, so you can enter it when your “checking out” on whatever website you're buying from.

I do not recommend following Phil's advice and only doing his questions. You should do A LOT more! Just my 2 cents.

I did a ton of MCQs. I hope it pays off. I'll find out in about 2 weeks!

For the first time at the MCQ, I only do all the Phil recommended problems. After that, I do every single problems in Wiley test bank twice. Good Luck!

VetTechToCPA: I'm glad to see you felt prepared using Yaeger for REG. I am about to start studying and it was the section I was most apprehensive about using Yaeger for since I read complaints about REG in recent months (stuff about not adapting recent changes into the material and people saying they didn't feel prepared). So it's good to see people who are happy with it

As for Gary/AUD, don't get turned off by his monotone delivery, which seems to be the most frequent complaint about him. He is really good and doesn't just read out of the book, so if you can look past his voice then you will do great. His tips were dead on and I highly recommend him.

    R. Baker, I read all those posts about people upset with Yaeger REG about 2 days before the test and managed to freak myself out. But, while I was doing this freaking out, a very smart person (my dad) told me that at that point there was no point in getting myself worked up since I only had two days left, that I chose the Yaeger approach and I needed to stick with it. Turns out, like usual, my dad was right.

Glad to hear your opinion about Yaeger's, AUD. As soon as they have the 2012 products available, I'm pretty sure I'll be purchasing it.
