I know it varies for different people but just wanted to know what is an ideal time breakdown for REG section for the testlets and sims. Would be great if anyone who has already taken REG could answer it.

    Thanks in advance…

i did all my testlets in 90 mins (even with 2 breaks) which left me 90 for both sims. i finished right as time expired. i spent extra time on each written communication. i don't think you need that much time, but it does help. reg is a beating with the time limit of 3 hours.

As you don't have a clock, you need to time it yourself. I allocated 30 minutes to each of the MCQ testlets, and went slowly. When you get a question you don't know, mark it for review later (be honest with yourself on that judgment). Go back once you finish the entire section to review questions if you have time.

I took no breaks on REG, but made sure I re-read questions to try to prevent losing points on “stupid” things. I had about 1-1/2 hours left for my simulations, and my first one was a bear. Lots of calculations, and picking numbers out (and knowing where to put them). I had only 30 minutes left for my second simulation, but it wasn't as voluminous (to me) — but if you didn't know the material, it'd have been a struggle.

If you're running over 30 minutes per section on the MCQ (just a guide — not a firm rule), I'd advise against a break unless it is absolutely necessary. If you leave, you need to check in and check out at the front with Prometrics, and there may be others doing the same. That may result in wasted time, and you want to maximize each minute (if you can).

    REG - 97
    BEC - 82
    FAR - 86
    AUD - 96 ... DONE!

The time constraints for REG are tighter than for any other CPA exam. You may not go over 1 1/2 minutes on each multiple choice question, or you will not have enough time for the two simulations. I think that it is a good idea to check your time after every 10 multiple choice questions.

Additionally, I memorize my time schedule for the exam and I put that schedule down on my scratch paper. I also pencil in the time that I finished each section. This technique has worked very well for me in all four CPA exams.

Besides managing your time on the exam, do not forget to manage your scratch paper. I divide my scratch paper into three columns. Since I have been managing my scratch paper, I have not had to ask for more paper.

If you do not manage the CPA exam, the CPA exam will manage you. Take this advice from someone who has learned the hard way!

    Good Luck!
