I wanted to hear from you guys (hoping you guys are still checking this thread). Did you feel that you did badly on atleast say 2 sims, good on MCQ’s and still passed? In the previous years we used to hear all such stories that even if they did not finish something in one sim, people still passed. This year with just one sim, what is the most optimist story? Please do write in. The changes this year in REG are killing me. I think time-wise it is easier this year but scoring-wise I don’t know. And it doesn’t help with the scores being released just in one wave.

When I took REG (2011) I really thought I failed the exam. The Mcqs were horrible and very specific. The sims……..wow……. the sims were brutal to say the least and I had 2 sims I didnt know what they were asking for, so I just tried my best guess on those. I could say REG 2011 is one of the hardest exams in the world, period. But this can also work on your favor, since many of the candidates will find this exam equally hard and have similar problems with the sims. Study a lot for corporate and partnership taxation but don't overlook business law topics either. Every exam is different, so be prepared for anything and everything the AICPA could throw at you.

Thank you for your post. I am so relieved. Now I can concentrate on AUD. I took REG in Apr and had a very tough experience. So I wasn't able to study AUD.

I felt as though my MCQ were fairly hard, but not brutal. The sims were very detailed and required specific knowledge which was not easily researched under the research tab. I felt that the sims made every effort to test whether you knew the processes and requirements of the areas they were testing…. If you knew them you knew them, and if you didn't you didn't.

In the past I have always heavily utilized the Research tab on the sims to double-check my information, but I found that the revised layout of the source documents provided made this very difficult on this exam. It was time-consuming and not terribly beneficial.

All in all, I felt the Wiley materials, my 2010 Yaeger Cram notes for business law, and the A71 Ninja were very helpful to me. The last thing I crammed before going in was the A71 Ninja (literally in the Prometric lobby) as the Yaeger notes were primarily business law and didn't have tax info. I've done this before and found that I picked up a few little reminder nuggets that helped in the exam, and the Ninja notes are brief enough that you can pick out fact-lets that you need to know rather than swimming through something more amorphous right before going into the exam.

    I passed with an 82.

I will reiterate that all my sims required specific knowledge of specific areas. I would only delve into the research tab for assistance if you feel you really know nothing on the topic, as the sims were all VERY time intensive. I allotted nearly an hour for the sims and definitely had to hurry at the end.

    AUD - 92
    FAR - 73, 82
    REG - 72, 82
    BEC - 84 DONE!!!!!! 🙂

Leaving the exam room, I was sure that I had failed because the Sims felt so difficult. At the time I was so frustrated that I nearly felt angry during the exam. But I felt that the MC's went pretty well overall.

REG was the only exam I took in the 2011 format and I didn't really find it to be as difficult as I was reading on the boards, but seems my experience is in the minority. My sims did move slow between the tabs was the only thing I experienced that frustrated me. Some of the material in the sims was a little different and I wasn't prepared fully but was manageable and Becker did prepare me well for the sims that I faced. I experienced this in every exam I took in 2010 also they seem to love curveballs on sims. Multiple choice wasn't any different from any other exam I took and my review materials prepared me well. I took the exam in February and passed with an 88.
