If you work in taxes, pls tell me abt ur working hrs. Are part-time jobs available in tax and off seasons? During tax seasons, what are ur working hrs? Other than the tax seasons, how’s life doing taxes?

If relevant, I am in Austin,TX.

I worked in at a regional CPA firm for one tax season. We didn't have any part-timers. I worked about 60-65 hours per week during tax season. I didn't do taxes outside of tax season… I did audit.

Not trying to be mean here or anything.. but why do people say “ur” and “abt” instead of just spelling out the entire words? It scares me that people type on the forums in “text” speech. I bet in a few years, the younger generation won't even know how to spell out the longer versions of these shortwords. Scary!!!

I could just see the presidential election in 10 years… “i'll rays lots of $$ fur the ppl of amrica. pls vt fur me!” And the people will respond with “lol” “rofl” “gg”

    /sigh

Just finished busy season today and I averaged ~65 hours a week plus about 75 hours this week (and it's only Thursday). During non-busy season I average ~30 hours a week. There probably aren't too many part-time jobs unless a firm is grossly understaffed for the season and probably aren't any (save internships) during non-busy season.

    Hope that helps.

Yes that definitely helps. Now I know part-time tax job is not an option. Got to find something else to do:)

I worked at a local firm for a short period. Their primary work was taxes not many audit clients. I worked about 25-30 hrs a week on extensions during off season the rest of the time compilations/bookkeeping; busy season 60-70 hrs a week.

If you are wanting part time work. You might try working for yourself if you think you have enough experience. Just take on clients that have returns relative to your experience level. You do not have to jump right into a 1120 or 1065.

After I left the firm I was surprised at how many people(non-clients) wanted me to prepare their taxes.
