I thought I would create this new topic for those that are taking REG in the October/November testing window. I am taking this test on October 19. Anybody have any experience with this section?

I took REG last window and used Becker and passed with an 89. I don't remember where it is in the book, but take a close look at 1231 assets. Its a small section in the book but it seems a lot of people felt that it was more heavily tested than they expected.

It seems via your other post you've done perfectly fine with Becker, If you use it the same way you should do fine with REG as well.

Don't skimp on the Blaw studiying either, I believe its actually a substantial part of the exam, some people seem to focus so much on tax they neglect the blaw portion.

I took Reg on Oct 6th using only Becker. I read the book once, didn't watch the videos (I found the videos literally read the book), and took all the homework until I answered each one right, and took about 12 practice finals (many of the questions get re-used, but it was worthwhile). I couldn't tell you how I did. I am pretty sure I spotted 2 or 3 "test" questions. There were maybe 5 or 6 that I was unsure if my answer was correct. The Sims were tough, and I can't say how well I did. I don't think it was a blowout either way. My guess is I got anywhere from a 70-80.

just took REG today. It wasn't as bad as thought it was going to be. harder than BEC, but easier than FAR.

    FAR - 85
    BEC - 90
    REG - 10/19

Packers54301, did you have any time management issues that everyone is warning about? I'm curios because I'm usually a super-fast test taker and I'm trying to estimate if I'm going to have problem with REG (taking it Nov. 30).

    Thanks.

Been studying for about 2 months.. exam is on friday. just took Becker's final exams. First one, 62% on each testlet. Second one, 70/60/75% Some were stupid mistakes.. (did well on the simulations, but i hear it doesnt really compare to the actual exam) .. I am so scared right now. At least I know what my weak areas are I guess..

    ktsullivan,

Those are similar scores that I got on Becker's Final Exams, and I ended up with a 91 on the real thing. Those were sooooo much harder than the real thing in the last window!

Good luck, ktsullivan… Don't worry about the scores. I got low 60's for my BEC practice finals…

Good morning everyone. I am scheduled to take REG November 4th. I am starting to get worried because I have been through all 7 Chapters of Becker's 09 REG Edition and can't seem to score well on the MC/Simulations etc. (Avg. 60%).

With 2.5 weeks to go before my exam, does anyone who have and good study tips on how I should plan to study these final 2.5 weeks? and what Chapters to focus on the most (if using Becker) etc.?

    Thanks!

    ? AUD - 87 (8/12/09)
    ? REG - 77 (1/15/10
    ? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)
    ? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)

make sure you really read the explanation whether you get the question wrong or not, make sure you understand the underlying concept. Id go through the MC over and over again, and switch up the order to make it harder to memorize.

Thanks! Do you suggest I spend more time with R1-R4 vs. R5-R7. How did you split your time here? Also, in terms of the simulations… are they comprable? Should I spend a lot of time going over these, or focus more on the MC? Thanks again.

    ? AUD - 87 (8/12/09)
    ? REG - 77 (1/15/10
    ? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)
    ? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)

I think where you split your time will depend on where your stronger, the Blaw stuff comes pretty easily to me, so I spent more time in the tax area, however, my boyfriend struggles with Blaw and rocks tax's world so he has to spend more time in the R5-7 area.

As for the simulations, I think its good to go over them to get an example of how the information can be presented, but they can throw anything on you at the exam, I did always go over the simulations, but definitely spent more time on the MC.

glogo2384 – you're still 2.5 weeks out…the Yaeger REG cram would serve you well. The B-Law handout that comes with it is excellent.

I thought the REG actual test was somewhat easier than the Becker practice exams. I did no prep on the simulations, though, as I didn't leave myself enough study time. I do a lot of writing in my current job, though, so the memo was not an issue, just the spreadsheet calcs. I also left myself a lot of time for the sims, since I felt pretty confident on the first go around on the MCQs (I only marked about 4 for review on all the testlets), and I only took one 5 minute break to get some water and use the Men's room. Definitely leave enough time for the Sims, as it ate up almost all my time (I think I finished with 10 minutes left, so it took almost 2 hours to do both sims).
