I thought I would create this new topic for those that are taking REG in the October/November testing window. I am taking this test on October 19. Anybody have any experience with this section?

    Which year, which numbers?

Hi all. I am taking Reg on October 19. I am currently studying the taxation topics and I have a questions. Which year do you think will be tested for most questions. Should I know the exemptions, section 179 amounts, and standard deduction for 2007, 2008, or 2009? Please let me know what you think.

Also, how heavily do you think the recovery acts of 2008 and 2009 will be tested?

the section 179 amt i am guessing yes. I don't believe you should spend too much time memorizing the exact amount for standard deductions and personal exemptions…but then again i could be completely wrong by the time i take it OCt 19th.

    FAR - 85
    BEC - 90
    REG - 10/19

I wouldn't spend time memorizing dollar amounts. I took and passed REG on 8/28. Look at the % outline for the exam that shows what will be covered and how much. I would focus on what the pass keys say if you are using Becker and corp and partnership rules rather than stressing over $ amounts. Learn the concepts and how to apply them. A lot of MCs ?s for practice are VERY helpful.

Packers54301, just wondering if you could shed some light on the study strategy you had for FAR. You got a really good score! I just started studying FAR last monday and I am getting very nervous! This is my last one….I knew it was going to be a beast, but any suggestions would be great!

Just took REG for the 2nd time on Thursday. I studied with Becker and felt very confident about my ability to take AND pass a Becker REG test, however either the AICPA threw in a lot of additional test material, or Becker needs to adjust their study materials. I got a 74 the first time so I hope I did enough for that extra point, but I'm definitely disappointed with the materials I studied with considering what my actual test consisted of.

    BEC 75 - REG 74, 88 - FAR 74,89 - AUD 92

    DONE FOREVER

I sent my feedback to someone at Becker after I took the REG exam because I was caught off guard a bit too with some of the exam. I felt like I failed when I left and I ended up passing. I think some of the additional test material they might throw is in not guranteed to be used and maybe those ?s will be thrown out if enough people answer them incorrectly.

Will you give me some advice? With no practical experience, how many hours will I need to work for the REG? I just started working on it with Wiley and finished approx. 10% pages. I studied with Wiley for BEC and AUD, and hope it works for REG, too.

    BEC 88, AUD 89, REG 80, FAR 88 (8/28/10)

For REG I would get a video course that uses the Wiley books…that's my $.02.

I just took FARE oct. 2 and I'm planning on taking REG nov. 23. Planning on starting studying tomorrow. I'm actually real happy that I won't have to worry about receiving my FARE score until REG is over (hopefully.) Good luck with all of your studying.

Do any tax professionals have any comments to make on this section of the exam? Was it easier than expected due to experience in practice? How does Becker's materials stand up to the actual exam relative to practical experience?

I am also wondering about the timing of score releases. It seems as if everyone had the new sims this window. Will everyone be waiting until December for their REG scores? Any thoughts Jeff?

There's is no way of knowing if you have a "new simulation".

The simulations will change in 2011 and will have unrelated tabs, but that's not relevant for this window or 2010.

The only people who know if your sim is new (i.e. never tested) is the AICPA.

So – I wouldn't read too much into your sims as far as Wave 1/Wave 2 goes.

    Hi Jeff,

Are you sure that the unrelated tabs change to the REG simulations will not be taking effect until 2011? My simulations on October 5 had tabs that were comletely unrelated, all with their own background information. Is this the way that the REG simulations normally look, or is it possible that I did get some “new” or “test” simulations?

Jeremy – that does sound new. hmmm…I guess we'll see if you get your score in Wave 1…I'm curious to see how this goes.

    Jeff,

I can tell you this much. It is going to go badly for me. I had two hours left when I started the sims and the background reading alone probably took 45 minutes for full comprehension. Two hours was not nearly enough time to get through what basically ended up being 8 separate mini-sims. I suppose we will see though. My only hope is that they really are new simulations and the AICPA just throws them out completely and I get my score based on only MC and writing. HAHA.
