AnonymousInactiveI thought I would create this new topic for those that are taking REG in the October/November testing window. I am taking this test on October 19. Anybody have any experience with this section?

AnonymousInactiveJeremyinCA,
Yes, last window I felt the exact same way after I took REG. Lucky if I scored 40 poins on the whole thing! I passed with an 87. I studied hard and alot and missed all family functions, etc. so I could study. I used Becker and their final review. I went through all the questions and sims and even went through some lectures more than once.
I am still in shock that I passed. Good Luck to you.

Hope2BCPAParticipantJeremyinCA-
I took REG on the 2nd… Felt the exact same way!!!! I walked into the exam fairly confident- I was scoring between 90-100 on all of my practice tests, but the simulations killed me on this exam (except for the communication as you said)- Good Luck to you- guess we'll find out in Nov or Dec… On to BEC for me

AnonymousInactiveThank you for the replies. I have at least a small amount of hope now. Six weeks till the results. That is if california furlows font get in the way. On to studying for FAR and hoping that November 30 is my last day for this catastrophe known as the CPA exam.

AnonymousInactiveJeremyinCA….felt similar. wasn't my best performance, and felt alright on the MCQ's but pretty lost on the Sim's. Managed an 81.

gmbParticipantI took REG on October 5th and felt really good about the MC and felt like I completely bombed the simulations. I left myself 45 minutes for each and that was still not enough. I felt that simulations were very calculation intensive, repetitive, and time consuming. It sounds like a lot of people have had a problem with the simulations. I hope this is taken into account while scoring.

jbmagriParticipantgmb…. I felt the same way. i could not believe the calculation intensity. I actually just got back from the test. I could not believe it. I felt I knew everything while studying.

AnonymousInactiveGMB,
That is exactly what I am talking about. I left myself with an hour for each simulation and found that the calculations were way too intensive to be able to complete each tab accurately with even that much time left. I dont see how anyone could feel even a little bit comfortable with time in working those simulation problems; especially when you are talking about upwards of 10 time and theory intensive calculations that have to be worked with the computer's built in calculator. It is as if the exam was prepared by that one professor in college that just wanted to see everyone fail because he/she was unhappy with his/her own life. Probably too harsh but really I dont see how it is possible to get that exam done accruately with a measly three hour time limit.

HayleyParticipantTook the test and it is much more of a beast than FAR is! 3 hours go by so fast before you know it. MCQs went from medium-hard-easy/medium. Sims are just so long and require TONS of calculation, and it is nearly impossible to finish them knowing that the answers I have down are right. I just simply entered what I thought was right for all the tabs. Communications are ok, but the research questions are impossible. Overall, I won't be surprised if I score in the 50%-60% range. So much for having studied so hard and getting 90%s on the Becker questions.

gmbParticipantHayley,
I feel the exact way you do. When the examiners score my test they are probably going to confirm that I did pretty well on the MC and think that I either had a stroke or my 2 year old nephew took my place and started randomly hitting the keyboard when I got to the simulations. I just hope the MC are enough to carry me through.

AnonymousInactiveOh man, you guys are scaring me! I am taking it Oct 23rd. I just finished reading each chapter in Becker, and am about to start my 2 week review. I am definitely going to make sure I have all of my calculations & limitations down, and work on my time management for the MCQs to save as much time as possible.
Everyone is saying how calculation intensive the exam was.. did you feel that Becker (or your other review course) did a good job in teaching/reinforcing those calculations? And, what was more difficult- the calculations themselves, or the amount of calculations in the time allowed?

halfCPAParticipantJeremyinCA,
I felt the same exact way as you! I thought the MC was very fair, but that the sims came out of nowhere. I kept telling myself that if I fail because of the sims, I wouldn't know what to do different next time. I ended up with a 91, so don't worry too much if you felt comfortable with the MC.
ktsullivan,
I used Becker and felt very comfortable with the MC — almost to the point where I would say they scratched the surface. If you can get through the MC in Becker a few times, you should be fine with them! It's more about knowing your rules so well that when you read the question, you don't need too much time to think about what to do.

AnonymousInactiveThanks HalfCPA, that definitely makes me feel more comfortable!

HayleyParticipantgmb,
I felt like such an idiot during this exam. I worked my bottom off and felt confident walking into the exam. BUT HOLIE MOLIE, some of the MCQs are tricky. Either I could not find my answer in the 4 choices given (I tried both 2008 and 2009 limits, and for sure was using the right method) or it is easy to be mislead. I was so desperate at some point that I even tried to include/exclude certain items randomly to see if I could come up with an answer that matched with the one of given choices. For sims, all I can say is that I do not think I could have done better on them, even if I were given another year to study. I seriously felt like I was gonna throw up when I found out how LONG they are and they ALL require intensive calculation. I was like are you kidding me – NO DROP DOWN MENU CHOICES?
I hope the MCQs can bring me a 75% before Christmas (I think I got the new sims). This is my last section and I never felt this bombed on the other 3 sections. Oh Santa, I have been so good this year for studying.

AnonymousInactiveWow. I hope the AICPA reads this post. Haha. Thank you to everyone for your responses and making me feel a little bit better. I suppose my performane on the mcq's might have been enough to squeak by with a 74.51. It just seems ridiculous that they would make a test this impossibly difficult. What does it test? Our ability to do hideously intense, mind numbing calculations in a manner that brings a job in under budget? That makes no sense. They are encouraging anxiety and failure on this portion of the exam.
