I thought I would create this new topic for those that are taking REG in the October/November testing window. I am taking this test on October 19. Anybody have any experience with this section?

    BlondeAccountant,

I am taking it next Tuesday and while I was watching some videos, the lecturer was giving out both rates because they said that there is a possibility that either ones could be used which I think is ridiculous! So I am trying to learn the different rates/exemptions for phaseout of IRAs and some other ones that he mentioned. Good luck!

I did not get a single question on rates and phase outs…I think you should focus more on broad rules and regulations

what is the best way to prep for these deadly simulations? It's my second time taking REG and i ran out of time the first time around!

NJTProadwarrior – I feel exactly the same way. I dreamt about getting a 73, and I was like ughhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wont be surprised if I do not pass this beast though.

There's really no way to prep for the SIMS, other than making sure you have enough time……I failed the exam with a 74 in July '09……..The SIMS weren't bad, but I burned too much time with the MCQs…..

I'm taking REG on Nov. 29th, this time I plan to guess more and keep the testlets under 35minutes to have enough time for the SIMS…..So if I'm in the middle of the 3rd testlet, and have already used up 90 minutes….I'm just going to guess every remaining MCQ with an answer B like in 10 seconds….and move on to the SIMS…..

Any other tips? I'm taking it November 28th and all your feedback is very helpful!

if you are going to look at the tax rates i would probably focus more on 2008 rates and not 2009. with becker, they use ALL 2008 tax rates and besides, 2009 isn't even over yet! there is no way to prepare for the sims. you have no way of knowing what they will throw at you!

    by the way…found out my AUD score…PASSED! 84! 🙂

    AUD - 84; REG - 90; BEC - 79; FAR - 75; ALL DONE!!

blondeaccountant – if you are using becker…i would definitely do the supplemental questions. i already did them for chapters 1 and 2 (i sit for it 11/30) and they definitely help me understand the concepts more! because you are seeing different questions

    AUD - 84; REG - 90; BEC - 79; FAR - 75; ALL DONE!!

Word of advice: Don't worry so much about rates etc. Worry about the rule and concept… The questions barely, if ever, ask a question without giving you some sort of indication of a rate etc.

    ? AUD - 87 (8/12/09)
    ? REG - 77 (1/15/10
    ? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)
    ? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)

I would agree with the other posters about the SIMs. No real way to prepare. I am still on pins and needles to find out if I passed, but if I could do it all over again, nothing would have helped me better prepare for the SIMs. Just don't run out of time. A friend barely failed because she didn't finish one entire SIM due to freaking out about the first one. The time allotted for REG is just plain too short so you have to get through the MCQs quickly.

My advice is to leave plenty of time for the SIMs. I agree with Amethyst8, get through the MCQs quickly!

For those who took REG this window, would you recommend 30 minutes per MC testlet and 45 per Simulation? Is that enough time to allocate to simulations?

That's what I did…I ended up with almost 15 minutes left on the second simulation….

I probably could have used more time on the MC but with FAR I did not leave enough time for the simulations so I made sure I did with REG….although my simulations for REG sounded a little less intense than what other people are saying

    BEC: 79
    FAR: 85
    REG: 91 AUD: 11/21

I am a pretty fast test taker. I got myself down to 20 secs-30 secs per MCQ for the passmaster questions, and about 10-15 minutes per testlet when I took the Becker final exams. I was pretty confident with time management, however, I still spent about 2 hours on the MCQs I got at the exam. Some of the questions I got had two answers or no answers, and it was so frustrating in that I know the formula I used is correct. All in all, with Reg, time management is so easy to be said than done.

I failed REG with a 74, did good on the MCQs but did not have enough time for the SIMS. I'm taking REG again on Nov. 29, and plan to keep the 3 testlets at no more than 30min. For each testlet I will be looking for those MCQs that I know how to solve and just guess on those that I don't know; last time I was trying to figure all MCQs not good ….
