I thought I would create this new topic for those that are taking REG in the October/November testing window. I am taking this test on October 19. Anybody have any experience with this section?

cc_cpa: I took REG earlier this quarter and the sims were rediculous. I'm hoping my strengths in the multiple choice will prop me up. I think they are just luck of the draw…the Becker sims are a lot of filling out forms and checking boxes, chosing from a list, etc. on the usual topics. Unlike Audit and Financial, my sims for REG were NOT at all the usual topics. I think all of us who experienced that this and last window are just as mystified as you are. Fortunately, I do think that the MCQs were reasonable and with Becker I was well prepared. I have no idea how I would even begin to prepare for the sims if I have to re-take. Several topics were ones I had never seen before after using Becker, Gleim, and two bachelor's degrees! My only recommendation for anyone who hasn't yet taken REG is to focus on time management so that you have the most amount of time for the sims and can give it your best guess.

    cc_cpa,

I also took REG this test window and can vouch for others when they say that the SIMS are challenging. The SIMS were very calculation intensive and repetive. The subject matter was not terribly difficult it was just time consuming. I left myself an hour and a half for the SIMS and that still was not enough time. I carelessly rushed through the first SIM and had about 25 minutes left for the second one. On the second SIM I started to panic and therefore all my thought processes shut down all together and I probably completely bombed it. Don't expect to see any drop down boxes or check the box questions on these SIMS. Leave yourself plenty of time for SIMS but do not neglect the MCQ's for they are worth 70% on the exam.

I agree with glogo, the wording on the Sims was very confusing at times. It caused me to second guess my answers too because I wasn't sure if I was putting what they were asking for. For anyone who hasn't taken it yet, I would recommend reading the questions and situations very carefully before answering. Unfortunately, with the time crunch, this can be difficult though…

Wave 1 scores will be out before we know it… as soon as next week I believe.. I am expecting the worst but hoping for the best… only thing I can do at this point. I did not feel confident at all after leaving the exam…

    ? AUD - 87 (8/12/09)
    ? REG - 77 (1/15/10
    ? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)
    ? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)

REG, my last one. Test is in 6 days. I feel comfortable on tax, not estate/gift though. I feel comfortable on ethics, not law especially contracts and UCC. I am wondering how to wrap up this week studying. Should I just focus on UCC and contracts? Or is Gift/Estate a significant part of the exam? Do they have sims/writing essays on law or just tax?

Gator – I would still go through C/S/Partnership/Indiv tax again…gift/estate isn't significant, but you need to know it at a basic level.

No law essays on the sims that I know of.

Very helpful, thanks. I am semi-solid on business tax, so I will review it, then rerun old exam ques on gift, estate, ucc, and contracts.

    Thanks again.

Do the communications incorporate Law or are they usually (or always) on tax?

My firm treats me as a slave so I can't find anytime to study. My plan is to go hard at tax for 4 full days and possibly skim over the law section by reading Bisk once (if time allows).

I then will at least be able to put a solid effort into the sims and hope for some good educated guesses on the MC. Seeing as the test is sickly curved, I believe I got a chance at passing.

Words of encouragement for those waiting for grades … I took FAR and BEC in the past, I basically stopped studying because I felt I got crushed and had no chance of passing these exam. I left a large portion of both sims blank in FAR and i got a …….. 88. On BEC, I stopped trying when I got down to the second half the last testlet…. I got an 87. There is hope, just keep on praying!!

I don't know if it makes sense to post this in this forum, but this can be for both people who took REG already and who are taking it this window:

For those studying with Becker, how much emphasis are you putting on all the required reading in the business law section of the textbook? Is it just me or is that material endless? And why does it seem that for 25% of the exam that there is a ton of business law? When you do the math, its only 18 multiple choice on the test, less if business law is in the simulations.

    The written comms are tax-only

B-Law/Ethics comprise up to 40% of Regulation, btw.

I like the update to the Forum. Can someone fill me in on all the ‘new sim' hoopla… I'm trying to figure out if I happen to get a ‘new sim' or not when I took the exam. Does this mean if we got one of the ‘new sims' that they threw out the entire sim for grading purposes? How do they weight that then (e.g. 1 sim = 30 pts?) ?! Any insight would be nice…

    ? REG - 77 (1/15/10
    ? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)

glogo2384 – a “new sim” is simply one that they have never tested before…both sims are graded…only one written comm. is graded. Getting a “new sim” means you're in Wave 2 automatically.

Just because a SIM was “tasked based” (unrelated tabs), doesn't automatically mean it was a new SIM, correct?

    BEC 75 - REG 74, 88 - FAR 74,89 - AUD 92

    DONE FOREVER
